as well as christmas and bad weather resulting in spending a small fortune on hay, i mistakenly booked the farrier for 3,horse dentist for 3, one of which has to have work done under sedation, pay for pony club renewal for daughter, golf membership for son ,prom for daughter as leaving school and her 16th birthday in 2 weeks. im absolutley stony broke. are you surviving january. still 2 weeks til pay day.

Ive spent almost half of our house rent money on hay and haylage in the last 5 weeks and rent is due next week. I had to choose between farrier for 5 or hay/lage for 13 so chose the hay/lage as I figure as they barefoot they will last another few weeks without feet doing. I am having to try and negotiate moving the date our rent comes out to when my pay goes in just to stretch the cash a little

I have never had to feed as much as I am feeding through this winter. Having 2 good doers I never had huge feed bills, but this winter is totally different story. I have to drag hay&haylage, feed and water just over a mile down to the field through mud or snow to make sure my girls are ok every day. On the days I can't get down there, I make 2 trips to leave enough feed for them for the follwoing day. I do not moan, they are worth it, but what annoys me are people who have their horses out and leave them to fend for themselves especaially in this weather.
My horses live in nearly 2 acre field (I am on grass livery) with big, warm shelter (put straw down there) and water drinker (which is mostly frozen hence having to drag the water as well).
Last night some "good soul" let horses from next field out (they are always hungry) and they ate substantial amount of my hay, haylage and feed I stocked up with (made 4 trips down last 2 nights to make sure there was always enough in advance, especially because of the severe weather). It really upset me, because:

1.Just to keep up with all the bills etc, I am having to work 7 days a week (5 full time, Sat & every other Sun part time) and it makes me mad that some people are too lazy to get off their back side to feed their horses properly

2. I have put my back out twice in fortnight, slipped and really bruised myself last night dragging the stuff down and all for nothing.

And the worst thing is that I don't even get to ride in this weather!

Sorry, had to get it off my chest.
