The Kidnapping of Shergar. 8pm channel 5.

is this a new documentary or is it the one they have shown before? he was well before my time but i remember being told stories and watching the film about an interpratation of what happened. have watched replays of his races. such a shame to happen to any horse let alone one as great as him.

This it what it says on the Sky Guide on our telly:

"Brand new documentary tracing the life and career of the Derby-winning race horse and speculating on how his kidnapping unfolded in an hour-by-hour countdown of events."

Excellent. Thanks. Better description than virgin
the anniversary of him being stolen would have been on the 8th of Feb. unless its anniversary on when he was born?

thanks.

30 years later you would think that someone involved with this would have come forward with information about where his remains were?? they could have done it without saying who they were, phone call, letter or something! i know he would have decomposed by now but surely for those who were involved with the horse or who followed the case it would be some kind of closure?

There was quite a lot missed out, a close friend works for the son of the stud manager of Ballymany at the time of the kidnap and that side of things and the mistakes made were unbelievable. I think the poor horse did end up being shot because they couldn't manage him, we handle TB stallions for export a lot and they can be a handful outside of their comfort zone and that is with people who know what they are doing.

Lol, not likely. They won't even divulge where the remains of some of their human victims now lie.

Shergar's kidnapping and disappearance has a particular resonance for me as my own horse, Ballymoss was stolen (organised theft) (or kidnapped is more how the ordeal felt as an owner) in 1981, a few years before Shergar was kidnapped.

Here are a couple of newspapers articles about Shergar from The Telegraph and then more recently the DM

One thing stuck out for me- how come he didn't call the police straight after he had been dropped off?

Must have been horrendous experience for him but just picked up on it.

Speaking last night at dinner with a owner/breeder from Ireland, it seems everyone "knows" which field he is in :(

And sadly yes, I don't think he ever came off the trailer alive :(

Such a sad story, I fear that as many have already said he was shot, I used to work on a very high end TB stud and the stallions where well behaved whilst in their strict routine but any changes always caused no end of chaos so I'd imagine he was very stressed also at my stud the security was unbelievable, you would struggle to get a person in or out let alone a horse but I guess times have changed alot since then. :(
