After their misdemeaners earlier in the week when they decided to go a-courting a mare in the neighbouring paddock the boys have been confined to barracks. They have been remarkably good, although I half expected to go in and see escape plans drawn on the wall as in Chicken Run!

We had a very nice man come and put up some post and rail fencing today to confine the little escapologists - Mandie and Kevin were amazing, pulled out all the stops to get the job dones asap, if anyone needs fencing putting up let me know and I can give you their details.

Blue was a star, wasn't bothered by the mechanical post knocker inner thingy, infact stood and watched at close quarters for a while until he got bored!

We let the *****lands out this evening and expected them to run around like lunatics after being confined for 4 days. Instead, they wandered out, had a sniff at the fence, wandered back into the stable, had a poo and wandered out again and started to eat. I was quite disapointed, I was looking forward to a display of exuberance from them!

Fingers crossed that they can't get through a 4' high post and rail fence although I am wondering if they have have mastered the art of levitation while incarcerated. I wouldn't put anything past them!

At one point in the story, I thought Mandie and Kevin were the shetlands!!! Clearly MrsE you need well behaved shetlands like mine. Molly, who has spent a huge amount of her life running wild on Exmoor with NO hard feeds, NO rugs, NO shelter, NO hugs or cuddles and just a huge letter "N" hot branded into her side, has now perfected the art of standing by the gate trying to look as though she is starving and freezing and may not survive til morning unless I let her back in to her stable. Lady, who clearly has had a less demanding upbringing, stands with Molly at the gate and paws the ground in a demented, "I'm Suffering Terribly" sort of a way every time I go past. Needless to say, both of them graze happily whenever I'm NOT there. So far, no escapes but then I have enough heavy duty electric fencing tape to go 3 times round the world x

aw bless em, they will be mortified if they can't get through it, in fact it really is quite cruel of you to stop them! I'm about to put our houdini behind a 5ft electric fence, on mains and one hell of a belt in a last ditch effort to keep him where he is supposed to be, ponies, who'd have em!

talking of natives..............my old cob use to walk up to post and rail push and pull the top rail until if popped of if loose enough then hop over to the next paddock gave the ym a fright the first time he saw it:)

Our sec A has perfected the art of limbo dancing as well, even with 3 heavy duty strands around the world! Mind you, she can also break the ice in the water trough with one stab with a front hoof and untie any knot within 30 secs so I have to credit her with a very clever brain!
