Life is certainly never dull with a small terrier is it ??

I took the dogs for a walk this morning then began sorting the car out to go over and visit my mum.... 3 dogs came with me, so comfy duvets put in the back and vetbed on the front passenger seat for George. As I was coming in and out I left the gate open for a split second too long and George sneaked out ? Normally he is very good and will ‘hang around’, today he took off like a rocket down the drive and along the road ???

I live in a quiet road in a small town/big village (it can’t decide) but I was absolutely terrified..... I’ve never done such a quick sprint down rhe road after him, but he thought it was great fun being chased and happily increased speed!!! He is very fast for a dog with very short legs ???

Thank goodness he diverted off into someone’s driveway and I cornered him by their garage, he was totally un-repentant and had enjoyed himself hugely but I aged about 10 years in 2 minutes ?

He is incredibly good with the cavaliers when we go visiting so he redeemed himself today, he also got given a very posh and expensive rolled leather collar (far better than any I could afford for him!) which makes him look fab ?

How did he manage to give his 4-legged security the slip? ?

This makes me laugh out loud every time SK, you are brilliant! ??

The hounds know very well that ‘through the back gate’ is strictly out of bounds unless they have a collar and lead on so thankfully it is very rare that they even try. On this occasion they were all in the house having a little post-dog-walk hound rest thankfully ? Just imagine if they all got loose.......no, actually it just doesn’t bear thinking about!!!

This has happened to me a few times. I only realised that chasing wasn’t the best thing when we didn’t even realise the dog had even escaped. She stayed outside the front of our house for around 20 minutes until we spotted her and OH went to get her. She took off at speed with him following until something in a garden caught her attention. It’s incredibly hard not to go after her but she always comes back then.

Love the collar, it’s very posh. Hopefully George will realise this and not get it covered in mud.

This collar was inherited from a cavalier puppy of many years ago apparently - my mum found it in a drawer and produced it when I happened to say I wanted a collar for him today, perfect timing ? He now needs a nice little brass ID tag to go with it ?

What a naughty monkey, or words (expletives) to that effect!! It’s a good job you love him :)

I tried to give Willow away again this morning, while she was wreaking havoc at the vets. Surprisingly there were no takers. I do believe the poor chihuahua will need counselling just from being in the same room as her for too long :p

????

Oh poor chihuahua ? not really, I’m sure Willow wasn’t that bad ???

I did happily say to my mum today that I’d have another terrier like a shot after having George, I just love him so much.... I just not sure why ???

ok. forget agility. he needs to go terrier racing!

I witnessed a similar scene at a local show once. That's proper entertainment. Now, if you had Labrador racing the outcome would be very different. Three would follow their noses to the WI tent to scoff scones, two would leg it to the Burger Van and another (probably my Jake) would just amble back to me finding the public humiliation too much to bear. ??

You should be grateful George is a short arse. Imagine the trouble he could cause if he could reach stuff. My dad has confessed to me that on three occasions my collie has let himself out of their house. The first time my parents had nipped out for a bit and got a call from the neighbours asking if the dog ought to be wandering around outside and front door wide open. Turns out he can open doors if they have a lever handle. Second time they were in the house and he let himself out and was in the front garden. Third time they were in the house and he took himself off up the road to see if he could find a car to chase / commit suicide under. Very glad I wasn’t there, I would have had a heart attack! His recall is still shamefully poor and his chase drive insanely high so I’m amazed they got him back before he got himself in bother. They have now had to turn all their door handles upside down!!

it would give him a definite advantage!

I once saw terrier racing at the local county show. Terriers were released. two finished. The rest were having a mass brawl in the middle of the arena ??

I once helped my brother. He instructed me to go up the end to catch his dog at the finish. I thought I’d recognise the dog (Lakeland x) until they were released and around 30 dogs all came running towards me, a good proportion of them black, at the speed of light. I needn’t have worried though as there was a mass brawl at the end and by the time people had started picking theirs out of the pile, my brother made it back and grabbed his.

We once took the greyhound to a dog show and entered the dog racing. So many people said we had an unfair advantage and complained.
Scoobs, the greyhound set off. At walk. Went for a wee and then sat down. Even the chihuahua beat him.

Bruno would definitely be involved in a brawl. He'd start it and then leave a trail of destruction in his wake.

Ha1 Mosh that's brilliant! Dear Scoobs. I love him massively.

I had an Irish Wolfhound many years ago. Lovely dog. Rescued her at 6. Lived til she was 10 and a 1/2.

anyway. Was invited round to my mum"s for tea. She, unknown to us had sausages under the grill. In went Lucy. We wandered in afterwards. Mum says "where are my sausages!"

I leave the rest to your imagination. And she really wasn't a thief at all but it was just too much temptation! Happy days.

I no longer use bone shaped tags as one got hooked round the bar of a crate when a dog was snoozing. The dog paniced and fortunately the collar broke otherwise I think the dog would have.

Hmm, my Cavalier got his round tage stuck between the bars of a slatted bench after laying down. I don't think I have ever heard a noise like it! He was pinned to the bench by his collar ...:(

George reduces the chance of getting his tag stuck by only ever sleeping on my bed or my knee ???

All the hounds are required to wear them by the rescue charities so it’s habit for me to have a dog wearing a collar and tag

The joys of terrier ownership! Glad it all ended well. I tried lure racing with Ollie at a charity show. He caught the lure and would not let go, even when the handler lifted lure with dog attached up to shoulder height . I had to run up the course and go and detach my dog from the lure he was dangling from. He has not been allowed near a lure since. Total contrast with the sight hound who stopped mid course and trotted back to me when he realised he was exerting himself to catch a few strips of plastic.
