As title really my little man is going to his first sj competition. Could be interesting as he is not to keen on jumping things he has never seen before but there's only one way to get him used to jumping away from home so we have bitten the bullet and gone for it.
The plan is to trot round the clear round so he has plenty of time for his little mind to take things in  the we are doing the first class I'm going to see how the first one goes before planning this one but if he is good and calm we will hopefully get a round mainly in canter (I can hope any way) but if not it's small enough to trot round happily. Just need to hope he can keep his brain working and not have a little meltdown so fingers crossed.
Sorry possibly not new lounge but I post more in here :D

well the little man did me proud :D :D :D :D :D so so so sooo pleased with him :D
went to get the trailer but the brakes were locked on so that took us a little while to sort out so we arrived a bit late. He was a bit agitated when we got there so tacking up and putting boots on was a bit of a challenge  but went to the warm up and got on. He was not that stressed compared to what he can be but he was tensing as his girth was several holes lower than normall but still tight. Any way the warm up was indoors and I'm not sure if he has ever been indoors before but he was fab didnt really make any diffrence being inside :D was a bit busy to start with so it was hard to send him properly forward but we managed it eventually. Had a few jumps that he just took totally in his stride cue one shocked mum as he can be a bit funny about jumps he hasnt seen but just kept sending him forward in a nice active trot and he just kept popping :D so sent dad to enter us for the clear round but it was already full :( so we went for the 55cm instead carried on warming him up with plenty of people jumping the wrong way over the practice fences so I was planning my turn as people were coming towards us but mr cool kept his brain working so was very happy :D went to walk the 55 was a nice inviting course so was quite happy thought he may look at the planks at 3 and the wall at 7 so planned to make sure we approached them in trot. Had a walk round then a few more practice jumps as we were late in the class. Went in I was a bit nervous as I wasnt sure he would go past several things in the arena but he walked in nice and calmly :D walked him up along the fence between the killer fillers and banners  the bel went and we picked up an active trot to the first, a nice inviting cross pole popped that with the little man feeling rater proud of him self and on to the second a crosspole with a back bar nice jump here as well, the photographer got a photo of me with a huge smile on my face :D round to the planks nice and forward he had a little wobble in front of them but decided mum was pritty insistant on going so popped over :D along a dogs leg to a spread hopped that easily. Nice half circle to 5 popped over after considering it then had a baby run out when faced with 3 fences in a row as 5 and 6 were on a related distance and mum had her whip in the wrong hand  but came round again and popped 6a and b not the straghtest of lines between the two but we got over it. Then round to 7 (dreaded wall) positive riding and he had a think but went for it any way and then nicley along to the upright at 8 :D lots of pats and a happy mummy, not in to the jump off but jumped them all :D :D

off to get him in now will continue when I get back :D :D :D
thanks for the support

sounds like you did fab:D

you have made me less nervous about taking my horse (who is 12!) into an indoor school for the first time!!!

well I'm not to sure about what he has done in his past but I think he has done very little competition wise but he was absolutley no diffrent to what he is outdoors there were other horses there that were fine so he just relaxed in to work. If anyhting he was better than what he is in a grass warm up at summer shows :) I'm sure yours will be fine

Well done!!!:D
I find new venues and taking youngsters out for the first time to be nerve wrecking, but generally it usually goes better than you thought!
Glad you had such a positive experience together today.

thanks guys the best is yet to come :D:D:D
I wasnt sure if we should do the 65 or if it may blow his brain but as we didnt do the clear round and we jump a lot bigger at home I decided to give it a go.The first part of the course was the same so just had to walk the jump off this time, it was run so if you go clear you carry on. Jump off course in my head I hopped on and went to warm up again. So had a little warm up again and jumped a few bigger ones managed to keep a nice forward trot as there were less people in the arena and then had a few goes in canter before having a little chill and then going in. Popped the first and he offered canter so cantered down to the second nice and straight this time ;) brought him back to trot for the planks as there were 2 this time and I thought he may need a bit more time, gave them a bit of a rattle but they stayed up :) again he offered canter to the spread at 4 so took it in canter easily no questions there :D brought him back to trot as we had a runout after that last time popped 5 thought about running out of 6a but had my whip on the right side this time so tapped him down the shoulder and pushed him right over to the other side of the jump then over b, not the straightest of lines but a clear so far :D he then took canter round the corner but I decided to be cautious over the wall again as it had another layer on this time so trotted in untill the last stride where he decided he was up for it and took canter again. Took canter away and over the up right at 8 still clear :D round to the jump off :D :D all the way round to 9 had a filler each side so again opted for the safe option to give him a bit more time to have a look and trotted in but he was having no second thoughts at this point and was over that as if it was nothing took trot again between the killer banners and fillers and over to a slanting up right he was a bit confued about it but happily popped it from trot :D misssed my planned turn so had to go round a fence near the killler fillers against the fence :p back over the upright gave it a bit of a rattle but it stayed up then cantered down to the wall from the other direction having no backwards thoughts :D:D:D clear round for the little man and lots of pats and a few cheeky polos for being brave
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D was a great day and so so so so so so proud of him he has really come on in the last few weeks with his jumping now he is fit and has the most fantastic attitude to it as long as he isnt really scared he will attempt most things and he makes me laugh and smile the whole time even when he is being an idiot ;)

a little bump as I am so proud of his last round hopefully we have turned the corner now and really looking forward to 2011 with him :D and I'm still buzzing but my legs are aching now

was smiling for ya reading that!! well done- first double clear.... first of many maybe!!

thanks I hope so :D
going clear round 65cm may seem like nothing to some people but its the biggest step for him as he used to back off and panic about the tiniest of cross poles and 6 months and a day after I got him he is happily jumping a course :D

This was great to read and very inspiring!! I'll be taking my boy to his first clear round on 13th feb so nervous so it's great to read about your experience. Forward trot seems to be the way to go but hopefully a clear round won't have too many scary fillers etc Well done to you both!!:)

Dotty - the fillers wernt under the jumps there were a few at the edge of the arena for the bigger classes later on and some put as a v at the edge of the jump so you go through not over if that makes sense? Good luck with your round

Pedantic - thanks will work on the pics dad took videos so will try get some stills out of that or get a YouTube account so I can post the videos

Brilliant - well done the pair of you. Love seeing things like this gives me hope my youngun will behave (however misguided that it) when the time comes! :D

Would love to see piccies :D
