The long jump?

I came across this recently in a "Did you know?" type email

I had never heard of the long jump event before and wondered why it died out? We still have the high-jump puissance event in SJ, so why not the long-jump as well? It sounds like fun!

Has anyone tried it and have any tips on trying it myself?

Sorry didnt read right! I have done similar teaching horses to jump open water.

Blue sheet, start pole width and make wider. Add a pole over the front of it to get some height.

I am thinking that it should not only be fun to try something new, but also it might be kinder on a horse that is prone to bad backs? None of the nasty jarring on landing, not to mention much the same for the rider...!

Thank you also millsandboon for the further details! Jumping ever higher, you can really get hurt or your horse as you crash in to the fence. With the long jump, the worst you would seem likely to get is muddy hoofs?

I wonder if we could get some interest going again in this, maybe even a game to try out at PC camps?
