I've been having a couple of 'lessons' (read being shouted at) by the stage IV girl at my yard and she is AMAZING.
She has taught me the most basic and simple technique to get my ponio going lovely. Basically it turns out the more leg you use, the less your pony pulls.
Yeah, now I did know this , but I was struggling so much to put it into practice. My pony has never been ridden off the leg before and she tends to shoot away from any leg contact and lean on the hand so I would take my leg off and pull and we would end up in a heap. But NOW.....
AMAZING. I now have a pony that stays soft and round through her transitions, doesn't run off as soon as we canter and I can even just about go round a whole course of jumps without having to take a pull! I love this leg to hand business and I love my instructor. LOL
