My JRT is always harbouring a tick.
Today horror of horrors, I found a bloated tick crawling on the carpet, having dropped off after a few days feed.
Duly flushed down the loo of course! But where are the others that I ve missed, crawled too? - Entomology help please

I am always checking him for ticks and comb him through with the flea comb and dog stripping comb too, but I ve never caught one that way.

All the tick/flea lotions don't seem to work - can anyone recommend anything that really works?

Also what`s the life cycle of the tick, does this stop during the winter months or are ticks an all the year round parasite.

I found a Scalibor tick collar combined with regular frontlining to be very effective, I haven't found one for ages.

They are so gross aren't they

Thanks folks - seems there is nothing new out to get the b****rs.
Flambe eh? - thats using a lighted match I presume!!

TBH, I never really minded too much, as long as the tick stayed on the dog - dog immune now to effects of ticks after three years exposure - its just when it dropped off and walked across my carpet that I almost had kittens.
- I ve always found them before when dog starts frantic scratching. Yeuk yeuk

Oh no, you want to get them off in case they migrate onto you!

The tick collar cost about £17 from the vets but has lasted all summer.

But once they get their suckers in they stay put until they are fat enough to locate easily - I don't think they actually "graze" a bit here and there, or wander about.

Will check with vet for the collar though - thanks

Yes, but then they get full, drop off, get peckish again and wait for the next snack to wander past - it could be yoooouuuuu (said in National Lottery advert-style)

Ewww well I thought so but even if I'm wrong and they lay eggs surely that just means lots of baby ticks in the house?

Although surely they must feed more than once as they spread blood-borne diseases?

Eeeeeewwww I just hate them, they're so minging
