Must be the Shar-Pei, not to buy but to keep alive. I have had 2 and am on my third, I must be mad. Anyone else had experiences of this breed?

*beats Cayla back from the thread with a large stick* :p :D

LOL Sorry no experience with them myself, I have to say I don't think I would want to take on a dog with so many probable health issues.

Have no idea about Shar Peis but Dex my rotty is the most expensive dog I have ever owned. He has just turned 3 and so far must have cost us around 6grand!! He has had to have both his cruciates done and then had the plate removed from one leg. I think poor old PetPlan are keeping their fingers crossed he is finally fixed!!

Thank you Vizslak, Ifeel reassured and more confident!. I breed JRTs with the longer legs, and we have lurchers, these two breeds used to work but not now sadly. I know that Shar-Peis dont go with the sporting dogs but we all have to have our own little madnesses! Cayla is not alone in her opinions either lol, but they have a certain appeal to me.

Parsons? Me too! also a lurcher owner and the other breed is kind of given away by my username!

I love your JRT so similar to mine, verylittle colour, mine are not parsons and are not registered, just a type that we like for working purposes. 14inches tall and 14inches long. My husbund worked them with the lurchers who are collie, greyhound Dearhound x and a Bedlington x Greyhound. Dont work them now obviously!! We live in a very rural place in Cumbria and these dogs were invaluable to the farmers round here. I hope this doesnt cause a problem to anybody.

Hi pastie2, welcome to the forum. Don't mind our weird sense of humour. No experience of shar peis but have to say I don't envy you the health problems. Mind you don't think as a breed they are getting as much grief from the KC as my breed GSDs are at the moment.;)

PHEW that is a relief, you have to be so bloody carefull, could upset people by saying dogs are doing what they are bred to do and fullfilling their breed instinctive. Little did you know when I posted about Shar- pei that we would have so much in common!!! Goes to show dont judge a thread by the title!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank youMurphysMinder for the welcome. Ihave had health problems and temperment probs with this breed, but I have to sayI never buy one only rescue as I feel that I have knowledge of this breed. People buy Shar-Pei and have no idea, so many end up in the rescue centre, if I can sort a dog out and give it a quality of life then I feel satisfied. They are a complex breed as are your GSDs. The Kennel Club are as much to blame as anyone else, I could go on for ever about them.

Hello:) We've got lots of working dogs on here of all shapes and sizes;) And we also have some greyhounds:D

LOL - that is my little sofa ornament Islay (left hand side on my signature) in her younger days before she was a rescue :D I am sadly very proud that she actually won a few races...blushes....

We need pics of your dogs though please :), we love pics on here :)

Oh and I totally agree with MM, KC bashing is order of the day here :D

Aaargh Sharpys..... I don't know how anyone manages to keep them alive/healthy! Used to be a Vet nurse and as soon as anyone registered a pup we knew we would be in for a lot of visits. You're right though- they're not a dog for novice owners, people break them and mess them up.

I also have JRTs (for my sins) a long legged rough coat one (in pup at the moment- due about 3 weeks) and a very expensive short bandy-legged one who has has 2 broken legs and 3 spinal ops, thank Dog for Insurance, although still cost about £3500 on top of that. He's just turned 6 years old I bet he's the most expensive dog ever?

Farrierlover you will then know about gastric torsions, amaloidosis, entropian, baggy skin desease et al. Had them all. But I know these dogs and not many people even want to bother with them, the wrongpeople buy them at huge expence, but their temperment is the main problem, they are shy and reserved and aloof. Poor dogs the breeders should be called to account for breeding these inbred dogs. The KC has a lot to answer for.
