Is an absolute star!

The DG has a long term and permanent loan pony, called Poppet (actually registered as What-a-Poppet!), and she lives up to her name. We brought the horses in on Thursday and Poppet was clearly lame, very lame, and inspection revealed a very swollen tendon. I rang our Practice and was told to leave her until the morning and to see how she was then. The next morning the tendon was worse so I 'phoned as soon as the Practice was open. Despite the fact that one partner was on holiday (again!) and that the other was officiating at Fakenham racecourse, I was told that the recently qualified Harriet would come out at 10:30.

The DG was there to meet her, and when I turned up, the young Harriet had removed the shoe and as she cut in to the sole of the foot, around the edge, a huge abscess burst. Had someone suggested that the now fairly well blown leg could be the result of an abscess, I would probably have scoffed at the suggestion! How wrong would I have been! :D

Poppet now has poultices applied, she's receiving Bute and though not yet sound, is back to her old and chirpy self! RESULT!

The bonus is that Harriet is highly competent as she moves and works around a horse, AND she's considerably prettier than the 3 other vets within the practice who are all men! :)

A huge well done to Harriet, and I'm not easily impressed!

Well done Harriet and how nice to see her work acknowledged. I see the vets at Fakenham races had a torrid time.

Don't let the DG catch you a flirting with Harriet. I can see the twinkle in your eye Mr Swan ;).

Mine had an abscess a few months back. Leg swollen & he was lame. Farrier dealt with it swiftly & within hours he was back to his usual self.

Glad to hear Poppet is happy again. & well done Harriet.

Just a brief update, this morning I was instructed by the DG to take Poppet for a walk up the road, poultice and all and I had a job to keep up with her, found a dry-ish bank for her to peck at some grass, and on the way back i trotted her for the last ten yards. Sound as a bell! :)

The DG isn't the only girl in my life, there's Poppet too! :)

Alec.
