I would normally sing the praises of the NFU as up until this year they have bee very good when paying out for one of my dogs, BUT this year they have been bad.

Just a bit of the story behind the claims. One of my Springers has three on going claims with the NFU. I pay a high premium for him. The new year starts in March and since then I have sent invoices in with very clear covering letters. Three weeks ago my vets rang me to say they had received 2 cheques from the NFU. I rang the insurance company and explained to them that the invoices had already been paid and that the cheques should have come to me. I was informed that they would look into it for me.

Four phone calls later to the NFU and speaking to four different people and I get the same story, "I will look into it, I need to see the paper work (invoices etc) and I will get back to you. On each occasion the person has not got back to me. The amount that they owe me has now got to over £800 . Just his pills per month it costs me £105 each month, when I add the food and the extras he needs then that bill can come to over £250 a month.

Today I will be again phoning the NFU and this time will hopefully be speaking to a manager. If I do not get any joy from this then a formal letter of complaint WILL be sent to the main office.

It is a shame that this has happened as I have always been happy with the NFU and the way they have dealt with the claims I have put in. I pay £1000's each year in premiums as I have al my horses ,the dogs and my Land Rover with them.

Sorry for the rant and I hope this will be sorted soon.

Could you not just ask your vets to pay you back or keep the money from NFU on account for you? NFU pay vets back directly so you shouldn't have paid the bill, I didn't for the horse claim I had.

For small animal claims I always have to pay the bill and then I claim from the insurance company. Up to this year I have never had a problem.

I have this morning spoken to someone else who has accured me it will be dealt with. I will believe that when it happens.

With my claims for the horses or if the small animal claim is large (For the Vet Hospital/College or the Hydrotherapy or a MRI he's had) then they do a direct claim.

It seems to be happening with a lot of insurancxe companies now. They seem to want to keep our money as long as they can.
