Who even knew they could get so far into extension through the poll??!! I’m sure this posture is incredibly beneficial for...something.

His next move to reach a little higher is to rear up and balance on his hind legs like a gazelle to reach the higher branches. Sadly I haven’t caught this on camera yet!DA7A84F0-24F6-4629-92DB-31C523F380FF.jpeg

My 5'2" butt gets it. The shapes I pull reaching the top shelf in Tescos.

Has been being doing yoga YouTube in lockdown like everyone else?

Maybe that’s it, pony yoga!

And it is a tough life, 14.1 pony grazing a hedge that’s been eaten by greedy 15.1 pony, you have to gain whatever advantage you can.

I love your photos. Everytime I'm reminded of the view that dressage movements come from the horses' natural moves. Clearly these are edited for rider H & S because BBP's moves aren't seen in any form of dressage. Arzada perfected the levade to reach higher branches. Sadly I was never able to experience it under saddle. Though thinking about it I should have just saddled up and waited under the levade inspiring branches.

I saw my trainer's horse do this the other day. Same posture. Plenty of grass in the field but he *had to have* this one leaf just out of reach. Horses, eh?

This is a recognised high school movement called Le Jiraffe .

I had a Fell pony who would lie flat on his side and slide his head under the lowest strand of electric fencing to eat the longer grass on the other side . He would lie like that for ages , shuffling his way along the fence line , really entertaining to watch , and when you went to catch him he would carefully slide backwards and stand up for you . Never , ever damaged the fencing .

he`s doing yoga, i believe, your fence looks like mine after the donkeys ran through it, sorry

Haha yes, it was more of a tape storage facility over winter with me running lines back and forth to keep it out of the way. I keep meaning to take it down and use it for a new bit of track now they are out there.

In fairness to the pony there really is bugger all grass (need some rain please!!) so this is now the best option, at least until the lazy human quits taking photos and puts some hay out.

I love this, glad it's not just me who forgets what I was doing cause I'm too busy looking at how very adorable they are

Great picture .
There’s been some work done recently on the importance of browsing on orthopaedic and soft tissue health in horses .
They need to browse , mine have high up swinging nets and low cal treats now when stabled .
