Hello!!

I finally (well she was only there 5 days!) brought my Orange NF mare home on Saturday after her DSP surgery. Vets were impressed how well she was coping so let me have her back!

She seems good in herself apart from being tad jumpy at times, and the wound looks well although bless her it is very sore :(
Have already had issues with her removing the dressing - twice - in one day, but think (and hoping!) we've counteracted it with changing her from a cotton lined stable rug to a nylon one, so watch this space!!!!!

hey that is great news!! My horse has the KS surgery on tuesday and i got him home on Saturday AM!! My vets were thirlled with how it went. I have a rug with a huge hole in it so nothing touches the staples I found that it works really well!!
Any pics??

That's a really good idea with the holey rug - I hadn't thought of that! Inds has a stcky foam padding and melonin over it at the moment.
I will put the pics on a memory stick tonight and upload tomor - I have also take a pic of her war wounds! It's nice to hear someone else going through the same thing at the same time - I don't know of anyone around here who has had a neddie go through KS surgery!
How many baddie processes did your boy have?

Yes Moose has a hole in his rugs hahaha actually my vet supplied it is really good for when you have the patch thing off. Moose had his foam thing off on Friday AM and was sent some sat! There are a couple of people on here who have had it done now quite common apparently now.....Moose had three fused so they removed 2 leavin the middle one in..yuck....they did this while he was standing up.....even more mental...but he is home and is happy as larry still on drugs and stuff and he is having his staples out a week tomorrow. Here is a pic of his war wound they rug had slipped and it is a bit longer than this. Amazing really he has hardly any swelling. I have loads more pics on my facebook account! how many did you girl have out??

It's amazing how well they patch them back up isn't it! Indi is now suddenly not keen on eating her Danilon (they let her have patches at the vets which release pain relief throughout the day - wow! I wanted some for me but they said no, the meanies!).
Vet is out on Wednesday just for a check up, and then staples out on the 12th...if they can sedate her again - she's needle phobic just to add to the problems!
Apart from her back being sore to touch, she is doing well and happy in herself thankfully. Seems to like her new haybar which means food on tap at a comfy level. Would be good to stay on touch on FB if you like - I can PM you and once I upload the pics you can see Inds' chop site!
She had 3 problem processes, so one removed and the ligament snip alongside. Have you got all the exciting bumpf to read re physio and pessoa work???

great news everything went well

our mare had this over a year ago and her dressing was held down by threads that were looped into her skin which was so easy to keep in place

old thread with pics of how it looked below

i hope all goes well for you both

our mare is back to her old self again but it did take us nearly 12 months as she had other problems at the same time

hope your boy doing well. mine had her op last tues - came home weds, and her bandage fell off today and it looks like this!.....

Ohh bless her little socks!! Moose has been brilliant if it was not for the fact he has a holey rug on you would be none the wiser. he is being soo good tempered about it,. hoping that this is a sign of future behaviour?! fingers crossed for the Ginger one when do the staples come out??

xx

Keeping fingers and toes crossed for you! I'm hoping the very same thing for Indi! She is seeing the vet tomorrow morn just for a check up and staples come out next Wednesday! I popped her magnet stable booties on this morning too - worth a try! She has taken a sudden liking for Refreshers which is a worry when she pinches the pink ones I'm trying to eat myself!! x

Mine had 3 removed 3 months ago and his back was massively swollen - there is still some residual swelling now. He was on 3 months box rest, and he is now being worked (he also had PSD op) but vet ahs said it is another 3 months before we can put a saddle on him.

The biggest swelling we had was from the vertebrae nearest his wither - this was a hard swelling which took ages to go down and it is still a little swollen on one side. His back is lumpy though, and looks worse because he has no topline at all.

I will see if I can dig up some photos.

Re the dressing, our came off all the time too, we just kept changing them. The wounds were pretty much closed by the time we got him home though as he was in the hospital for 2 weeks becuase of the PSD op.

I'm pleased Inds doesn't have too much swelling around the incision, just directly around the staples but that has gone down pretty well now. She is still very tender there though bless her and keeps testing the stable door after I have been through and closed it - ever the optimist!

Flibble - I expect the keyhole helped rduce his recovery time then?

CBAnglo - Inds has decided that we do not like having our dressing changed and the wole world is going to end if mum tries it! The vet is seeing her in the morning so may let him have the fun & games with that! She isn't nasty with it but just makes it clear it hurtez :( She is a special one though
One week gone, another few to go!!!!

This is all mental!!! Moose has 4 weeks box rest then 2 months turn out then we start lunging with the pessoa and ride the first of April!!! His were totally fused so they felt removing them was the best option. So glad to see so many good results!

CBAnglo fingers are well and truly crossed for you and your horse!

We should start a facebook page for all our kising spine updated and piccys???

There is a Glos Horse riders kissing spine group as several of us have recently been diagnosed at B&W equine.

I know some say why is it occurring more often I think a lot of it is horses are getting better diagnosis now.

This is what my vet was saying this morning and how far the technology has come

The Facebook group would be good (even though I'm in Somerset lol!) as its so good to bea ble to share stories and ideas.

Vet is really pleased with her progress - most of the swelling gone and when I walked her up & down yard for him (just to guage how comfortable she was/wasn't), he was very impressed when she stopped to bite a fly on her flank! I have tried to explain to her that the carrot stretches are not on the scheduele yet!!!

Looking at your pics I feel sorry for my boy who had it done a few years ago - They opened him up from wither to jumper's bump and there were easily 100 staples down his spine.

Good luck with all yours' recoveries.

100??? Poor boy! Indi has c.20 (not that i have been bored and counted them or anything!) but I couldn't imagine removing that many?
I hope he made a full recovery? ;)
