that's just typical of the justice system...if she had stolen money her sentence would have been much longer...unfortunately our judges seem to value money more than suffering of children or animals....makes me sick!!!!!!! im always amazed how long some of the sentences are for theft and yet assault or rape seems to be less bad in their eyes....

There is a tariff, so the judiciaries hands are tied - they have to set it somewhere on the scale of that tariff for breaking that particular law. Campaign to increase the tariffs through parliament and your MP

I don't think they will because if they were rescued by the rspca they may have been re homed already, but some owners are requesting information on horses that did survive, there is a thread on al that name a few that didn't make it :(

I've only just seen this (not been on AL for years), I remember meeting Rachelle I was competing at North Wales Arabian show, and she came over and talked to me, admiring Apache, she seemed very pleasant.

Obviously, that is incorrect, and I'm appalled by both what I've read and the very very lenient sentence :(

I hope they are able to announce which horses survived and which didn't at some point.

I'm quite shocked that the RSPCA can rehome loan animals that have an owner who hasn't neglected them.

I've gone and read the new posts on AL and it seems that I'm not the only one who doesn't understand why loaned horses weren't returned to their owners.

This is the bit I don't understand either. Surely part of the prosecution should be formally identifying each horse and identifying who actually owned that horse? If for no other reason than neglecting someone else's property has got to carry more weight than neglecting your own.

If the welfare services aren't obliged to track down the real owners before they rehome horses (and in the case of the rspca I believe that their rehoming policy now includes transfer of ownership to the rehomer), then that is a worrying precedent for anyone who has a horse on loan. If reports on Facebook are to be believed, the rspca also put some down because they were arabs and they couldn't deal with arabs

I really hope that the last sentence proves to be false, as it's really worrying if true.

My arabs have to have microchips as per the AHS rules. If the loaned horses were also registered with the AHS, they should have been easy to identify via the chips.

It is a pity that when it is a breed related neglect the governing breed society isn't called in to help. I noticed all the names on the list looked like stable names rather than proper names. What happened to the stallions T Orchestral Pearl and Last Crescendo - they would not have been straightforward to rehome. The others - have they just disappeared? Horses like Taragun for instance? These horses were well known in the arab world - I hope they are in a better place now.

This case should have been referred to the High Court. As she failed to admit any part in the lack of welfare of the horses that were in her care I would conclude that she has clearly lost the plot and at the very least should have been sent to Broadmore Prison on a long custodial sentence in an attempt to rehabilitate her. She most certainly should not be allowed to own any animals ever again.

I can't understand either why the horses weren't identified, and especially in loan cases, returned to the loanee.

The passport marking should all be in record with the AHS.

:(

The way this case has been conducted shows all the reasons that the RSPCA need serious oversight from someone. It is not difficult to find out who owns these horses, most of them would have been microchipped, and there was the thread on AL from owners wanting info, so they could have done something. If I had loaned this woman a horse I would be baying for blood, and possibly looking at a civil prosecution for destruction of property if it had been put down or theft.
I will also say I knew a case years ago, when a horse who was on loan had been neglected, it was returned to the owner post rehab. This horse was of no particular breed, and wasn't freeze marked or micro chipped, yet they still managed.

I think a few horses have been listed on the Al thread that did not make it, I really can't think of those beautiful Arabs being pts because the rspca could not deal with them, I as an Arab owner would have taken one in at the drop of a hat I keep my horses at home and have room, I have not read the statements on Fb, I am even thinking of contacting my local rspca and letting them know I am in disbelief that an organisation so big can make such a decision, they are just another breed of horse I have never had any problems with any I have handled.

I just cannot believe that someone who has caused so much misery will be able to purchase another horse in just a few years and carry on as if nothing happened.:(

Was just having a think I may be really out of date with things but in this situation for example I have a horse it's microchiped with a breed society I decide to put horse on loan, I contact breed society and let them know so they record this, horse goes on loan horse gets neglected gets taken by one of the horse rescue centres horse looks like it could be a pure bred of what ever breed, rescue centre contact breed society, horse flags up as being on loan but they have owners details horse goes home, is this procedure not in place ?

That procedure makes sense to me PVB, but it doesn't seem to be what happened at all.

I actually think that this issue needs to be officially looked into and it must be clarified.

He's lovely, but I do wonder what his real name is - 'HAPPA Noel' won't be the name registered with the AHS - and whether he was owned by the Peels or loaned by them (if indeed he is a Templars horse)? Is there an owner somewhere wondering if he is alive?

I find this bizarre as well! Taragun in particular was very well known in the Arab world, so it seems odd that no-one seems to know where she is now. Did she survive? I hope so!

on the AL forum it says Taragun "had outlived her usefulness and they couldnt get her in foal". So sadly she may be one of those who didnt make it :-(

I think the charities commission need to investigate the RSPCA. I also hope the people who owned the horses who were put down and were lied to about it sue.
