I have 3 coats all of which are different makes and they all claim to be waterproof but have seriously leaked when I've been stuck out in some of the recent downpours

Do any of you own a coat that actually stays waterproof even when your out for hours in heavy rain, if so what make is it?

Ive tried LOADS and the only 2 that have stayed waterproof have been Musto and Georg Schumacher. But yes Gore-Tex is best and make sure they are actually sold as waterproof and not water-resistant ..

I have a Joules waterproof jacket which has yet to let any water in at all, was caught out in a serious storm in itand was the only jacket that didn't let anything in.

Also my John Whitaker jacket has also never leaked.

Yes, my Bronte jacket is amazing

. Never been out for hours and hours (I,e I've never been out riding for 4 or 5 hours in a downpour in it) but it has sustained really heavy rain recently and kept me warm and dry

, it's really comfy as well.

I have a Horseware one, a Rambo one, which is just a 'rain sheet', with no padding, but which has proved to be wind and rain proof. I just stick a fleece or body warmer on underneath, and it works just fine!

Perhaps Im just unlucky but I have tried (in no particular order) :

Joules
Anky
Kyra K
Horseware
Bronte
Just Togs
Pikeur
Fluorescent builders jacket

All leaked in heavy rain.
I do like buying coats though

Same here, I've got one and it is great, windproof and has never let any water in, even my phone stays dry in the pockets which I hae always had real trouble with!

i have a joules blouson and its very good, doesnt leak, its quite a new one though, my old one does leak (as i found out yesterday)

Musto snug or Musto Combination jacket

I will NEVER ever buy any other brand for waterproof coats now

For stuff to be truly waterproof you need Goretex on it

Musto, without a doubt. Although I pinched OH's Toggi Xtreme Bergen jacket yesterday and that withstood everything yesterday's weather threw at it!

Non equine brand but amazing

Marmot

designed for mountain climbers. I have the kagoul (sorry can't spell it) and the puffa jacket. Puffa jacket is like a duvet even in the iciest weather and the kagoul keeps me dry even after a full day working/riding on the yards.

Bloody expensive though. thsi is the cheapest waterproof

I've got the Musto goretex one (I think they call it the Innovation Soft Shell) and it's great. Not a single drop of rain got through in all the horrid weather we've had in the last week.

My musto jackets are all getting a bit old now and have been washed too often to be waterproof for the sort of weather we've been having recently. I'm hoping Father Christmas will be bringing me a new one...

I've gone back to wearing my 20 year old Barbour riding coat (can't think what the proper name is for it) and I have to say that that is extremely good in foul weather, even if it is a bit oldfashioned technology not being washable etc etc

forget equestrian brands which now seem to be made for high street fashion rather than function, go for sailing/mountain climbing gear, musto, berghause (sp) helly hansen to name a few....
