The reccession and prices of geegee's

Evening, i think we are some time off getting out of this.
With the massive loss of jobs across the UK i would say horse prices will stay lower, just the same as houses until our economy sorts itself out, could be years imho

Hi all, thanks for your comments. Was asking this question because im currently loaning a horse (that will be going back in a year or so) and i will be wanting to buy 1 after to progress further in dressage etc. But my loaner (who loans my other horse) has asked me to give her first refusal of him when im ready to buy 1 as then i will have the funds....but i dont want to be waiting a while if prices are going to rise any time soon...

Personally I think the recession has been a good thing for horse prices, there are a lot of very ordinary horses out there for sale at ridiculous prices, and it's time they came down to a more realistic level.

Mind you, there are still some people out there who will pay silly money. A friend has just sold her nice, but green and relatively unschooled, 8yo sec D mare for £3000. She's a nice mare, but has done nothing other than hack around a farm a couple of times a month for the last 2 years. Doesn't have the greatest hind leg conformation either and has capped both hocks. The people who have bought her only want her to ride around the farm. That's a lot of money for what they've got in my book!

A friend of mine has just sold her 15.2 five year old, not done much, just being brought on nice and slowly but with very little competitive experience, for £5k - within about 2 weeks of advertising. I will be the first to admit I thought she was off her trolley when she said how much she wanted for her, but it would appear I was wrong!
