The return of NED?????

There has been the intention to replace NED ever since it became defunct. PIOs and other organisations were invited to tender to implement and maintain an equivalent database last year but the lack of clarity and/or constraints around structure/funding/Governmental support meant that the bigger organisations who would have the ability to run such a database effectively declined to tender and none of the organisations which did were deemed suitable. It's currently been put out to a couple of universities as an academic exercise to identify a mechanism by which a viable database can be set up and run efficiently.
