So, myself and a livery had a bit of a childish ride today...

Started off well, then we got talking about times gone by and our old days where we were both flexible. This conversation came round to the scissors, leg over front twizzle and leg over back, and round the world.

Managed the twizzle and round the world...scissors- not so successful (dont think the mare was too impressed with my attempt either).

Did you guys partake in the fun games when you were younger? Remember any other fun ones?

Ooh, what do the scissors mean to you? I got my OH to do round-the-worlds and things when he started and I've occasionally done the same to liven things up but I know at least two different 'scissors' and am not sure which is the 'real' one!

We used to do one called "thread the needle" which is similar to half-scissors, except you keep one foot in the stirrup and "thread" your other leg between your leg and the stirrup leather to turn around!
Thinking about it now, it doesn't seem that safe! lol

I had a lesson with a new instructor on Thursday and he made me do round-the-world!!! I haven't done that since I was a child and I'm now 48!! I managed it (both ways! :D) but I don't remember it being that difficult - hehe! Then I had to lay back onto Jack's rump and lift myself up with no hands (achieved). But THEN... and I'm embarrassed to admit this, so unfit am I, I had to lean forwards to relax onto his neck, hug him so that I held hands under his neck, then let go and lift myself back to sitting with no hands.... and I found this SUCH a struggle.... it's a lot harder than I thought it would be!! Try it!

Don't think I'll be attempting scissors... it's a long way down from 16hh when you're out of practise and creaky like me!!

There are two scissors

Half scissors: swing one leg over front of saddle as you would for round the world, whilst sitting side ways slide on to belly and chuck other leg back over the cantle to end up sitting back where you started

Full scissors: lean forward and fling one leg over the other behind you simultaneously so you end up facing backwards.

I used to be able to do both whilst the horse walked and cantered on the lunge  but doubt I could do 'proper' scissors at all these days. Half scissors and round the world I could still manage at speed I reckon. Even on bouncy old BH. I had an 'old school' mother who thought these things were important.

Half scissors!!! That's what its called- thanks guys :D Yes, i can still do that one, and round the world... full scissors is far too difficult for me nowadays lol.

(I would blame it on my high cantel, but sadly i think its just my old age hindering me now!)

Completely forgot about thread the needle, must try that some time.

Things I used to be able to do...sigh.
