Hi everyone,

I don't often post in here but we recently lost our beautiful boy Spike who was a husky x gsd - he was very much the centre of my mum and dad's day and was a fantastic, kind family dog.

We realise we will never be able to replace Spike, but my mum and dad want to start looking for another soon and my dad specifically wants a dog with similar breeding to Spike, hence we are looking at gsd's.

Ideally a young dog, we are open to having another puppy but we pick up waifs and strays as well :-)

Could anyone recommend rescue centres or breeders in and around the Cheshire area, your help and advice would be really appreciated. Thank you.

Have a look on the Big GSD forum, they represent loads of different rescues and also have dogs on there for rehoming from private homes. If you decide to go for a puppy there is a breeder in North Wales who has a litter due any day who I would recommend. Her dogs are part of the family , all have great temperaments and are fully health tested.

I love the breeders and puppy section on that link it is how all rescues should present the truth about too many dogs being bred

I've read through their GSD puppies and breeders-page (http://www.germanshepherdrescue.co.uk/german-shepherd-puppies-breeders.html), but even though I found it both very sad and interesting, I also can't help but yet again think that it sometimes sounds like as if there can be an unhealthy symbiosis between some rescues (= a not specified rescue) and puppy farmers/backyard breeders. Because when a puppy farmer/backyard breeder e.g. hand over/give one of their no longer productive stud dogs/brood bitches to a rescue, what is stopping it from simply being convenient to them, freeing up space, which they then can fill with a new, more productive animal? And the rescue can beat on their drum, about having saved/tried to save another dog from puppy farming.

Sorry for going off topic, Blackhor2e. I'm sorry for your loss, and I hope that you and your parents soon finds a new suitable dog to love, which will brighten up your days.

Yes, there are an awful lot of ex-breeders on there. So sad, but I'm sure some will be genuine and others not, I suppose that's the problem with forums of that kind

Sorry for your loss.

I second Biggsd. Or check with reputable breeders, some have youngsters who are returned for one reason or another, or who have run on pups which have not made the grade for the showring etc.

I'll have a nosy!!

ETA: Actually, it's probably easier if you PM me with what you've been looking at and what you are looking for in terms of size, energy, temperament, colour, blah blah blah, rather than me telling you what I like!
