Hi, can someone explain how the showing register works? I've had a look on the website but don't really understand it especially when it comes to qualifying...

I'm 15 and have always done local showing and done reasonably well but I want to take it further. I've got a Welsh section C...do you think going down TSR route is the right way to go?

Thanks in advance!

What level of show and what do you want to qualify for?

Their own shows are really friendly and good fun and it's great value being a member if you're aiming for HOYs

To be honest there isn't really a show I'm wanting to qualify for in particular I just really want to do more showing and get out more

Well the showing register is effectively just an affiliation body, similar to NPS, BSPS etc. It will have a list of shows on their site that are affiliated to them, it's not a complete list of shows though.

As you have a Welsh there'll be lots of options. I suggest going on national pony society (NPS) website and find out the details for your area. They've probably done their summer show by now but most areas hold Autumn shows.

Also look at the Welsh pony and cob society website, again they'll have different areas organising shows.

What part of the country are you in?

I'd probably go down the better known NPS route if i were you - very friendly any not only do they offer Novice (Picton), Intermediate (Peasedown) and Open (Ringside) qualifiers for natives, in winter they also hold Pure Novice classes to get you started :)

NPS will be starting their qualifiers for their Spring Festival (held in April) where you can qualify for the finals, or even just go on the day if you don't qualify as they do have all the qualifiers on the day too for the summer champs (held in august)

I assume your Sec C is registered?

Also look at the Northern Counties Pony Association (NCPA see www.thencpa.co.uk). There is a Derbyshire branch, which holds several shows a year, plus neighbouring branches in Staffs, Leics, Ches, Lancs, that would be accessible to you depending on where exactly you are in Derbyshire. There are shows throughout the year and you can qualify for the annual Pony of the Year Show, which is a really good championship final with lovely prizes and awards. Personally, I think you will find more NCPA shows that are accessible to you than NPS shows, which tend to be few and far between in the North. There are novice classes for Section Cs, open classes, junior classes that you would be eligible for, and in-hand classes too. Highly recommended as a stepping stone to working up from club level to affiliated levels.
