Someone asked yesterday (?) about the potential size their youngster should grow to. One of the replies (method 1) was about measuring point of elbow to mid fetlock and reverse up to the withers (hope I got that right) and another way, (method 2) is to measure mid knee to corranet (sp) band and to convert the inches into hands... (hope you understood that!!).
Well, I tried it on Penny this morning. She is meant to make 13.2hh, but at just over 6 months, she seems little and correctly measured is 10.2 and a bit!! The first method, she came out at 12.3hh (give or take a few cm's), the second method she came out at 13.1 and half .... I wonder how accurate that is, and I was curious to know is this method of predicting her hieght accurate at her age or should it be done when she is a little older??
Anyway, just for fun, I did the same 'game' on both Meg and Juno.... just to see if it is accurate at grown up age!
Method 1 on Juno made her 15hh, method 2 made her 14.1hh. Juno IS 14.1hh.
Method 1 on Meg made her 15hh, method 2 made her 15hh. Meg IS 15hh (just!)
At the end of the day, only time will tell how big Penny will make.

And then, moving on to the gate..... Walking the dogs, get to a 5 bar metal gate with a pole hanging below it to stop the sheep. Go to open it, and.....
I didn't see it wasn't even on its hinges.... I mean would you notice a gate if it wasn't propally hung - it looked normal. I knew it may drop due to the pole, but I didn't bank on it falling on me. Now I have a large hole in my leg, its going manky. Luckily its just above my knee and not on my knee. My leg is going black and looks very bruised. Poorly me!!! I even ripped my jeans - and they were my good jeans!!
I am glad it wasn't my mum, I know I heal better, so there are positives. Iam just cross that it looked ok, and clearly wasn't, it could have been much worse. I even contiued to hang it RIGHT...
Part of me feels like sueing the landlord... grrrr. I won't = no point, but sympathetic healing vibes please. Thankyou.
