Background:

Ex racer, cribs, poor doer. Been barefoot for 3 years but re-shod in front this summer. Currently out 24/7 on grass track, bucket fed copra (no supplements).

Winter he will be changed onto linseed, kwik beet, non molasses chaff/grass nuts and maybe keep copra, ad lib hay and potentially in over night depending on the winter we have.

I have in the past fed him Forage Plus, pro-earth and equivita supplements. None have shown any obvious improvements of hoof quality and comfort (hence I re-shod and dropped supplements).

However, this summer his coat has been bleached quite a lot so wondering if copper deficient, although my pony is completely fine and shares same lifestyle and is completely fine barefoot.

I have been suggested hack up so I have looked into it and got a bespoke formulation but I haven't yet bought it. Does anyone recommend it? I just don't want to spend out loads of money again on things that wont work.

Also bit worrying is they haven't written the levels/amounts of the vits and minerals in the supplement so I cant actually see the amounts he would be getting per serving.

Any advice appreciated.

If your worried I'd got back to the ones you used to use. People rave about Hack up but when I enquired I wasn't impressed with the suggestions and then they just hounded me via email.

Pro-Earth do a cheaper low spec balancer now, Pro Mineral I think which is about £10 a month. Might be worth trying that first to see if it has any impact
