This afternoon was spent mainly with the horses, a very quick hack out and a marathon grooming session and a fairly marathon muck out.
We went into the house for a quick cuppa between jobs, as you do. I must explain that our house and yard are at the end of a private lane, the fields surrounded by other fields and our private lane and there is no public access. We are the last house in a row of six.
Well there I was sitting in our living room when I saw a blond woman stroking sisters horse (sisters horse was watching us and getting miffed that we were in the house, not giving her attention at that minute :D ). I went out to ask said woman what she wanted, she was walking briskly away, I called after her, to ask if I could help her, 'oh no' she said 'I was just talking to the horses' and scuttled off! This was not a teenager/child, but a woman in her 20's/30's in jeans, country boots and bomber jacket.
Now what sort of person goes poking around a private lane, 'talks' to a strange horse and then beetles off at speed when asked if they need help? Obviously rude ones, but I do wonder if the ones who are looking for 'spare' tack, do it too. All locked up tonight though :)

Not so strange really. I was on a small private yard in a village and people would often tentatively enter to see the horses. Grandads with children, a lady pushing a wheelchair and adults out walking, people just fond of horses.
They always looked embarrassed if they saw me, but I'd welcome them anyway and invite them to have a look.

Well if the attitude of some of the posters on HHO is anything to go by, perhaps someone had had a go at her before for 'daring' to touch their 'baby' :D

Is your lane clearly marked 'Private. No access/entry'? Not that it makes much of a difference with other people :D

Sorry, but it sounds perfectly reasonable to me, you state she was already walking away, you asked if she wanted help and she answered that she didn't, she was just saying hello to the horse. Am I missing something (perfectly possible :D)

I had a woman in her 30s come charging up to me before when I was bringing my boy in, and throw her arms around his neck  Turns out she is autistic and just adores horses, I spoke to her and her parents and invited her down to the yard to meet all the others. She had a whale of a time :D I try not to be too 'precious' about him, I'm so lucky to have a horse and I appreciate that for a lot of people being able to stroke a random pony may be all the horsey contact they can get :)

I don't think its rude to stroke a horse, I often stop & ask parents if their kids want to say hello. But from the ops description it seems the lady had entered a private property to do so, which is cheeky.
