So I like to ride in the mornings. Am on a busy livery yard and in the evenings the school is full of kids charging about.

My mare is quite 'difficult' at the moment so is being testy - the mornings are usually great as i have the school to myself.

Anyway - hopped on this morning, pootled round to school. School is waterlogged (I mean who the HELL decided to build the damn thing on a slope

) and the kids have left an assortment of poles and jumps littered about.

She was a bit fidgety and the ground not great - then there was a cat wee-ing in a corner that upset her - lots of noisy lorrys AND just as she was starting to settle the gardeners showed up.
These guys keep all their tools on our yard, in a container thing next to the arena. For some reason there was about 6 of them this morning throwing things about and waving binliners in a horse-eating fashion. Cue lots of bolting across the school.

plus me yelling 'I am trying to school a 5 year old here!' in very stroppy voice..
mind you - I was determined NOT to fall off in all that mud and water.

Then, to top it off, at least two people ran past with horses they were turning out.

Could I get her to concentrate? Pah!

Thank god we are moving yards.... has been a long time coming

I know! It's the ONE time I can ride (not dark/raining/blowing a gale) and it's a conspiracy.

These gardeners though they have seriously large bin bags and the shake them out to open them..... even I'm scared.

Trust me, I know the feeling! I tried to ride last night and horse was being a pain - that coupled with people chatting on horses in the middle of the school, the fact that it is more like a marsh at the moment and horse was spooking at everything - I only lasted about 1/2 hour before I stormed back onto the yard for a 20 minute rant! Sometimes you wonder why you bother!

I schooled last night, admittedly the school is a series of lakes but I left the lights off so no one knew I was there and pony had to concentrate as there were no shadows...bliss although my eyes took a while to get used to to light when I went back to the yard!
Just as I untacked the world and his wife went to school haha, the pony club lot and the parelli woman took her horse in with a tree stump to get him to stand on it...

at least you guys have schools to ride in! i have a floodlit puddle that used to be a field....so when i go to riding club lessons (think nice safe RDA purpose built arena with good lights and surface and all the jumps you could ever want) my horse spends an hour shying at the instructor who thinks its hilarious.

and then last week when all the horses were going over the grid she'd set up and then whipping back right to get to the other horses, she put a green plastic mounting block in the way to help us all ride straighter. at which point none of the horses would go down it, except mine who went down the line did a massive jump over the last one and then bronc'ed alll the way round the school until the tiger under the block had got the message that he wasn't for tea.... we nearly fell of laughing at him!

It is a conspiracy!! Like my lesson last thurs - you can't book the school out, but you should be considerate. Well I was 2nd person to book a lesson for that day - due to having to ride after work it can only be after 6pm, so it only overlapped with someone elses for 15 mins but both were flatwork so that was ok..............WELL, I get into school to find Lesson 1 at one end a lunger at the other, weaving about was a very noisy beginner on his GFs horse (gf is very loud and upsets beau) and then we were joined by someone else!! I literally did one 20m circle, and then complained a bit that we wouldn't be able to effectively do anything - instructor even said something in a loud voice. Well no one paid any attention so I had to take my FULLY CLIPPED horse outside into the BALTIC COLD and try and have a lesson whilst he was getting upset about the cold and I couldn't feel my fingers! ext time though I am going to stand my ground as apparently it will get worse when they store straw bales in the indoor school!!

I am turning into such an old grump!! I even suggest the other day that the kids ride when they get up to the yard at like 4/5pm so that the ADULTS who work can have a chance to ride - as many of us dont get up till nearer 6pm so then we have to compete with each other not just the kids! It makes me especially grumpy as I only get to ride 3/4 times a week as have a sharer so time with my boy is precious and he has to be worked over winter as he is stabled and he will go loopy if not worked - he was up for a fight on Tuesday after a quiet weekend and I dont want to spend all winter like that.

The world is definitely out to get us!!
