Did anyone watch the Yorkshire Vet last night. ? Peter Wright was in his brand new gym at his practice, provided by them for the vets. Being cynical I wonder how this was funded?
I think we have all experienced increased. vet prices , especially from large practices. I am all for vets modernising their equipment but not sure about gyms for their staff

Isn't he at Grace Lane in Kirkby now? As a client of theirs (for small animals and farm animals) I'm perfectly happy with their charges so if they've found a bit extra somewhere for a staff gym, I don't mind. I've taken sheep in there as emergencies (in the back of the car!) and come out with pretty minimal bills, so I've no complaints.

Where do you draw the line on a private business spending profit to improve staff wellbeing? Would you be upset if they increased wages, paid for healthcare, had generous leave policies, etc etc?

I think getting your back up about this is a very weird response.

Exactly - I don't mind profits being spent on little staff perks (because in the great scheme of things, it doesn't take vast amounts of cash to set up a small gym). It's practices being taken over and run with the primary goal of extracting additional profit for investors that I find really upsetting. Grace Lane is independent and I'm sure that's part of the reason that they tend not to have sky high bills. Probably also the reason that they have the autonomy required to do things like giving staff a gym. Can't see that happening at Vets4Pets.

I think there's a feeling amongst some people, not you OP, that vets should do their job for the love of it and completely forget it's a business.

I'm on a couple of Facebook groups and the entitlement is shocking, the belief people should be offered payment plans or options to postpone payment. Why?

Whenever I pay a bill for my pets, I'm just glad we have the NHS.

Anyway in this case, their profit and therefore their choice what to spend it on.
