My faith in humanity has been restored today, although I think I may have used up a years worth of good luck all in one go!

I am competing in the team dressage with my riding club in two weeks and am lucky to be getting a lift with another team member as I don't have any transport. We had training today and the team manager was kind enough to take me to the club training ground in her lorry. My boy was a star and worked really well.

We loaded up to go home after seeing the rest of the team safely off and found ourselves going nowhere. The lorry was well and truly bogged down in the field and everyone had gone.

Then, a saddler was driving by who had just done a visit nearby and saw us in trouble. He came over and tried to pull us out in his 4x4. How lovely was that?! Sadly, the lorry wasn't budging. Then, a man came whistling by and seeing our predicament said he had a tractor, which he duly got and returned to pull us out. The tow rope then decided to snap. Quite a feat really considering how thick it was.

Then, 10 minutes later he turns up in a massive bulldozer with chain. Needless to say we were pulled free. He then tried to turn down money profferred to him for his help.

If it wasn't for the kindness of all these people we would still be sitting there now. A pointless post but Thank-you!

Lovely post ... although isn't it sad that things like these need our comment? They should be common place really. Just a bit of a sad world that we live in, where we're taken by surprise when people help us.

I'm glad you got home safely anyway, how nice of so many people to assist.

A nice heartwarming post so not pointless! I'm a bit of a believer in what goes around comes around so perhaps they will get their rewards when they need help with something!

Do you not find that generally people are really helpful- especially in our horse world?

Z always loads beautifully to go to an event but sadly sometimes doesn't want to leave the party, I'm always on my own and normally within a couple of minutes someone has grabbed the end of the lunge to help me funnel him in.

Went to combined training last week and this poor girl forgot her test , someone over heard and immediately offered to call for her. Then her 4x4 wouldn't start so her horse got tied to another lorry and jump leads and offers of help were coming for all direction.

I also live in an area where most are so helpful

I guess what made it more special was because a few years ago, when I had my own lorry, I went to an event and got the lorry stuck in a field. It was at an established venue and was also a pupil training centre. The person in charge of the car park had directed me to the field and after I got stuck they put everyone else onto hard standing.
I asked the car park attendant who I could go to for help and was dismissed as he was busy. The people in the training centre were also 'busy' and no-one wanted to know. I was there on my own and actually sat in the cab and had a little cry.
After pulling myself together I walked up and down the trailer park line asking if anyone could help until a nice old chap with a Land Rover came and helped me. He was my first ever hero.
I drove straight home without competing. The fact that so many people offered to help today gave me that warm glow inside and my faith in mankind was restored.

Since I have become involved in this riding club I have seen several examples of 'good will'. I think I'll stick with this lot and count my lucky stars!xx
