One of the ponies on the yard is being really naughty at the minute and so instead of taking the time to sort it out the owners have more or less abandoned it. Said pony cant be taken to the field because it rears and so is often left in with a note for YO to turn out. Because the fields are so wet the horses have either been having half days or turnout every other day. Said pony has been going out on the days where everything else is in and so has been charging around all day and working himself up. YO has on a few occasions brought said pony in as hes been left out on his own till gone 7pm. Owner states pony has to be turned out as hes naughty.
Owner has decided that said pony is too fat and he will get laminitus if he is fed hay. So he gets a tiny net (handfull) morning and another one at night. Said pony is often left without food and so YO will put a slice of hay in for him. He also gets a hard feed from owners.
Said pony gets no exercise unless he goes out in the field.
Owner who I think is 12 keeps having a go at YO for fetching the pony in and feeding him hay. All YO is doing is looking after the pony as its owners cant be bothered. He cant live off 2 handfulls of hay a day and gets really worked up if left in the field. Said owner who is on DIY will often not turn up at the yard for days and then has the cheek to have a go at the YO for looking after her pony. Owner turned said pony out at lunch time on saturday and said she would come fetch him in. Owner never turned up and another livery brought him in, fed him and watered him. Owner then had a go at YO as some hay had gone and when asked why she didnt fetch him in she said she couldnt get back down. Did she not think to pick up the phone?

It was all topped off this morning and I was left fuming. I drove 5 miles through the snow and then walked the last mile to the yard. Pony's owner has to walk across a field. I fed and watered all the horses who's owners couldnt get to the yard including pony. The farrier was due at 12 so I cleared the snow for him to work in. I always book said pony in with Gin otherwise it would never get its feet done. Only once has owner turned up to sort said pony out and there was a reason for that. Farrier turned up and no sign of pony's owner. I got pony out of stable and tied him up for farrier. Farrier finished and so I asked YO if pony's owner had left any money and they hadnt. Mother of pony then rung to say pony couldnt be shod as she couldnt get there, too late! I rung pony's dad and told him farrier had shod pony and needed money. Dad said he was out and so was daughter and so couldnt bring any money. I had to untie pony and put him back in his stable.
I was fuming. The date has been written on the board for 8 weeks and so I had to send farrier home with no money.

I have really bitten my tongue up until now but feel that I might just open my mouth next time I see her. I cant believe she keeps shouting at the YO when she is doing her a favour. If I was YO I would bill her for my time but shes too soft. If YO just left the pony the poor thing would suffer and its not his fault.

Ooops, didnt mean for it to get this long.

Poor pony. I hate when people think they're doing the right thing but really they're not looking after them properly. I think it's really between the YO and pony's owner otherwise things might get even more awkward if all the other liveries start to say things to the owner.

I'd be eternally grateful to anyone who gave my horse hay if she didn't have enough! Plus she bangs the door until she gets what she wants so they can't possibly ignore her!

Thats exactly how I am. Im always saying to YO to fetch her in if shes on her own or just give her some more hay and add it to my bill.

Its not as if they cant afford extras either.

It's not fair on the poor pony. I put Belle on livery sat night and sunday morning, just to be skipped out, fed and given a big haynet and I was a total pain in the a**e texting the staff to make sure she was ok, so much for a relaxing break! I hate being a burden to the yard staff and would much rather do my chores myself - after all, they have plenty to do without me adding to their jobs!

I feel extremely sorry for you the pony and anyone else who is having to pick up her responsibility.
I can't imagine that any YO will be prepared to take much more, do you know if your YO has threatened them with having to leave the yard if they continue to be so irresponsible and utterly rude to the people who actually care to treat their pony correctly?

Ive just been to give Gin her tea to find YO's hubby giving him hay and water as they havent yet been to see to him. Poor bloke worked from 7pm - 11am this morning and was getting ready to go back to work. He seemed a bit peed off so hopefully will say something if they eventually turn up.
I just cant believe 2 adults can be so irresponsible.
