There is a lady (I won't assume her age) who attends our drag hunt who's well over pension collecting age. She shows us all up, last time I went out and had a bit of melt down at my cob being totally nuts, she offered to swap horses with me!!!! Bless her I wish I had her energy and guts at half her age.

Good on the old girl!! thats fantastic! althought my nanny is 82 and the thought of her on horse back fills me with dread. If the horse is well suited to her needs then fantastic.

My great grandmother was out shooting rats the night before she died at 98. She went in her sleep and it was very unexpected despite her age.

She also used to chase rats with a tennis racket that still hangs on the back of the door in the chook house.

My grandmother now uses the same gun to shoot foxes/ rats threatening her chooks.

I still remember doing a clinic in Oz with Mollie Sievewright - about 32 years ago!! Riding in the same group was the late, great Miss Kay Irving - doyenne of the Pony Club! She was 82 and riding a 4 year old TB she'd backed herself. He had 'a moment' - and threw one of the most impressive bucking fits I've seen - and Miss Kay sat there, glued to the saddle, and brought him back under control - before apologising to Mrs. S. (who was gobsmacked!)

I somehow don't think I'll be riding just backed horses when I reach that age!

I know someone who is about 78 and still backs their own. They had a hip replaced and were back riding - listen to this - in six weeks The last one, I thought 'blimey', I wouldn't sit on that if it had done a full day's hunting, was a 17.2 homebred with attitude.

i regulalry stop & chat to a lovely older couple when they are out & about with their horse - both well into their 80s - they trailer up & take him all over the place - in fact she has inspired me to get a baby horse - i feared that in my 50s i was too old to do that

pmsl im 42 and can just about get on my 14.2hh part bred arab with a mounting block.got short on a hack once and had to get off him and go in a hedge for a tinkle.took me 10 mins to find somewhere high enough to get back on him.

My hero and guiding light is a local master in his mid 70's. Hunts mounted one day a week, on foot two days a week and spends most of the rest of his week clearing country. Sometimes when I call round for a chat and a cuppa he has a minute or two of shut-eye mid conversation. Can't think why

I know a fab lady of 81 who hunts regularly, and I also used to know a lady who hunted side saddle until she was 78, and would jump absolutely anything that appeared in front of her, on her 17hh 6 year old. Respect to the grand old girls!
