Does anyone have any advice on the fitting of a thermatex?

I had heard they come up a bit big?

Also what one is best?
They have a few different weights in the range.

They do tend to come up big so most people go for one size smaller than normal. They have quite a bit ofgive in them too so there is some leeway in the sizing.

I've only ever had the original one so can't say anything about the others.

go one size down from normal rug size and it will fit fine. I have original thermatex which I use in the winter and treated Pidge to a lightweight one for use in the summer as I find the original one a bit thick when its hot in the summer. Lovely rugs IMO.

ive got 2 thermatex originals and 1 thermatex snood. yes they are a generous fit. my mare currently takes 7ft and I got her a thermatex snood in 6'9. Its big on her but shes got a lot of maturing to do so will still fit her when shes done all that.

normally they recommend you to go down a size unless your horse is big build etc.

I had an original one - bought a size smaller as per general advice, but I was never happy with the fit of it. Always seemed too tight across the chest on my boy? But he was quite chunky.

Now I just dream about being able to afford one

Big lad is always a 6'6'', he really is very long, and got him a 6'3'' which is just right.
I'd get her a 6'3''......... or if you are really concerned get a 6'3'' in a stock colour you can send back to try on her, then order what ever colour you like!

Thermatex are great rugs in terms of warmth and wicking properties but for me they are a let down in terms of fit. They are prone to pulling back on the wither and they tend to stretch a bit too much for my liking.

For a fraction more £ I really would recommend you look at the thermalite made by lansdown rugs http://www.lansdownhorserugs.co.uk/products.php?id=61
They are made to measure and more importantly don't stretch back onto the wither if you want to use it under another rug.
If you go to badminton/burghley/blenheim they normally do a good discount.
