Can anyone with cobs and thermatex leg wraps help me decide what size they would get for my two cobs. According to their site I should buy small but I just can't see it! One is a 14.2 Irish cob (clipped legs) and the other a 15.2 Welsh cob (legs not as thick as the other one!). The Welsh wears M front and L hinds Harry's horse flex trainers or L Norton tendon and fetlock boots and they are a neat fit, almost too small. I measured the HH boots and the pad part of them is 30cmx30cm and this doesn't meet on her legs and won't look at the other one's legs. The thermatex small is 37x37cm. Medium is 41 x 37cm.

WWYB, my finger has been hovering for weeks and I've asked thermatex to no avail!

They are mainly for the Welsh but handy if they fitted both.

Anyone who has them how much can you over lap them by, roughly?

Legs in question:

Any help gratefully received as I can't decide and they are made to order so can't return.

I have them on my 14.2hh Welsh Cob - he takes a "2" or Medium in the Equilibrium boots (looking at the Equilibrium size chart, that's for a 20 – 22cm cannon circumference) - I haven't used any of the ones you've mentioned to compare. He has the Small Thermatex wraps and they're plenty big enough. They are currently in the wash but if they're dry in time I'll try to get some pictures of them on him in the morning/see how much they overlap by.

I have the large thermatex ones on mine who is a 15.1 hh version of Daisy. They are a bit too long in front so come up slightly high if I was being a perfectionist!! Not going to get new ones though - they have gone up majorly in price so we will make do!! I would say medium as yours both look like they have shortish legs!!!

I think my Thermatex leg wraps were the large size for my 16.1tbx.

Just a thought though, have you looked at the Mark Todd Coolex leg wraps? They have the Coolex inside and a tough outer cover so they don't pick up the shavings. I really like the Coolex version and they fit and wash really well. The equivalent Thermatex leg wraps are £85/set but you can get the Coolex ones at around £51.

I think mine are large I will check when I go outside and my horses are 15h and 15.3 but they will have finer legs than a cob as they are Arabs, they are plenty big enough in length and width for both of mine wouldn't need them any smaller, I would imagine the small would be too small for your horses.

I've just checked the label on mine and they're medium. I've got a 3 year old Traditional with 10 1/2 " of bone. He's about 15 hands at the moment but I bought them for him when he was a yearling . They do seem to stretch a bit after you put them on and there is still plenty of overlap.

I've got the large cordura thermatex leg wraps, they are a pretty generous fit. They were good on the 15.3 hh maxicob with 10.5" of bone and chucky felocks and pasterns, but are too wide to be ideal on the 15.3hh sports horse mare. She needs a medium size (same height, less wide).

For fitting, I'd get a piece of old gamgee or something (I used bubblewrap!), and cut it to the right dimensions eg 46cm wide/41cm tall. Then have a go at wrapping it around the horse's leg, it'll give you some idea of what size to go for. There should be a good overlap width wise, with no risk of gapping, but you don't want it going round half as much again, like it does with my mare (though the velcro still does up).

Can't help on sizing but recommend paying the extra for the codura version as they last so much longer. Mine are 16+ years old, get my sister for the non codura o

My 15/15.1hh gypsy cob is in large. He isn't a really heavy cob. They are long on him and there is quite a bit of overlap but I prefer that (will see if I have a photo). My friend's fell type, who is 14.2, has a small pair and they do fit but not any overlap.

What a great bunch you are thanks all so much for your tips. Pretty sure medium should be a good fit.

Will try the bubble wrap idea Tiddly to make sure, that's genius.

I know I should get the cordura ones but they are demanding cerise 🙈😳

Thought I would do a little photo update on these.

Probably could have got away with the small but I'm happy with the length of them and the small might have been too short.

Obviously they can only wear them when their legs are clean and dry lol

Daisy only got to try one on lol

Wow, they're.....bright :D!! But in a nice way :). I think that the sizing looks spot on.

Yes, thanks, I am very pleased with the sizing. Daisy's hind legs are (whispers) very chunky, so they will fit her ok too.

I wanted navy blue but you know these girls they DEMANDED pink with menaces so...
