Do they really come up quite big?? My WB takes is a 6"9 rug size but can also take a 7"0 depending on rug make.

Thermatex tell you to go down a rug size but i'm nervous of doing that.

Also does any one have a Thermalux?? Do they come up big??

Thanks

yes they do come up big, my boy is in 6ft9 and 7ft Rambo rugs and funnily enough last night I put a 6ft3 thermatex on him under his rug and it fitted! I do have a 6ft6 too but they are so stretchy and once you have washed them they grow a bit too!

Have had a couple of Thermatex's and they grow as you use them...my mare used to wear hers a lot as an under rug and it grew a few inches as it stretches. My boy has one that I only use as a cooler and for travelling, competitions etc and so has stayed near enough to it's original size. Surely if you went for a 6'9 you would prob be bang on the right size if your horse wears 6'9-7' and Thermatex tell you to buy a size smaller? Fabulous rugs by the way, well worth the dosh!

Thermatex come up big and do stretch a bit when used. I'd say Thermalux are about the right size though and keep their shape better too.
Both are good rugs.

I have an ancient Thermalux rug which I bought for £35 about eight years ago. It hasn't stretched much and I think it is 6'6 and fits my mare who is normally 6'9". I love it, it is warm and cosy and looks as though it will last forever, unless the bloody mice get at it.

have had both thermatex deff do come up big thermalux are the right size,i have to say i liked the thermalux better for value for money and they keep there shape
the factory in notts have a big seconds sale twice a year i think there in april and october they always have thermaluxs for sale at about £35 i bought mine from there and you couldnt tell it was a second nothing wrong with it

I bought a 5ft 6in Thermatex at YHL for pony that usually takes a 5ft 9in or 6ft. Fits a treat and has hardly been off his back since!

Thermatex will come up big (I have two) so go down a size. If you take one that is too big the weight of it will drop it down over the hind quarters and pull on the chest. They do tend to stretch over time IME.

yeah they definitely come up big. have you considered a mark todd coolex? they have a very good reputaion, and i would buy one instead of a thermatex if i could go back in time!

Sorry, off the point but do they still make Thermalux rugs? I used to get them from Robinsons but they don't sell them anymore. They're far better vaue than thermatexs and the fasteners are better. If they do make them, where can you get them?

Thanks everyone. I'm going to go for a Thermalux.

You can get Thermalux from Ebay & 4dobbin do them as well there's quite a few places if you google it.

STOP!
Hello fellow 'Staffs Dressage crazy' person!
I've sold both makes at retail, and own both makes, and would go for a Thermatex every time! Yes, they do come up a size or two bigger - I would recommend you went for 6'6" - and they will stretch, but they last forever, and are incredibly effective at their job - more so (in my opinion) than the alternatives!
You also have a massive choice of colours and colour combinations, choice of belly strap or X-surcingles, and you can even have a 'stable' version with a Cordura outer shell that doesn't attract shavings, etc, which all of these types of rugs do!
N.B. The single belly strap works just as well as X-Surcingles at keeping the rug secure!
Happy shopping!
