Well to be fair.. I think all Cayla did was Tys was set a few boundries and establish a bit of respect... it was Scott and I that she had to train :o
.. He's certainly been easier to manage since he's been home, but i am trying to be much stricter with him, hense the no sofa thing :p

Trying tonight was hiddeous, and he reverted back to a howling, spinning, leaping, pulling ********. I really wish we didn't take him. I think we're going to cut out group lessons atm, the travelling and the other dogs etc is just the wrong enviroment for him right now- we're just going to concentrate on one to one training at home and on walks.

Cayla did a bloody brilliant job with him though, ive never seen such a calm and contented dog chilling out with cats, rabbits and dogs alike :) .. We're a long way off that yet, but we are making progress!

Must be something in the air Dex was a saint for 20 mins then spent the next 40 doing a Ty.... utter NUTS... would have quite happily strangled him... OH has just said the same thing though with regards to group classes.... it seems to be too stressful for both of us

*looks round shiftily for box big enough, and Dex proof to send him to Cayla for a month!*

Maybe the classes themselves are just too stressy for him, certain dogs and certain people can set dogs off and if the atmosphere is quite 'high' he will feed off that, and also might be a bit too much stress for him after being away and in a chilled out atmosphere.
Just because it is a training class, doesn't mean it is the *right* training class, for you or for him :) he was chilled out in a chilled out atmosphere, right? :)

Glad he had a good time :)

Had a load of good advice myself at the weekend: If the dog is ****-acting, either wait until he calms down, don't speak, don't react, or just put him away (crate/car/pen etc) and try again later.

Yeah, that seems to be nail on the head with Tyson - when we went to see him I said hello to him in quite an excited way and he nearly knocked me out with sheer excitment, so Cayla made us both ignore him totally, not even eye contact and eventually he laid down and I patted him, then moved away. Harder than it sounds!
Thats basically what I should of done at training instead of battling with him.
I find it hard to accept that he can be around dogs, cats, even rabbits and not be a complete ******, but when i take him in similar enviroments he turns into devil dog. I've lost my voice from shouting at him tonight!

I think I want a trainer that will come and do some private sessions at home with us, before moving on to group stuff. I know the socialisation is important but it just seems to blow his brains.

Cayla said hes not high energy either, just needs to exercise his brain more - so the training is definately important.
Huge improvements are being made though, i say no and he accepts it, he comes in from the garden when called, he will sit or down imediately when instructed. Small victories, but pre Cayla these things were hard!

I hope Cayla sent you home with the manual:D, if I speak to Diesel in an excited way he goes ballistic. After I been out and come back home I just ignore him for 5 mins because he gets so excited . He needs to calm down plus he has only got one brain cell and it takes 5 mins for it to work out what to do.:D

Genuinely, what happens when you shout at him? Does it achieve anything long-term except damage your pipes?

Well, it didn't last night. Really its tone of voice and stern-ness that I need to achieve, as opposed to shouting I think. Tone of voice etc just seems to escalate when I start getting cross with him for his very unreasonable behaviour :(

She gave me and my OH lots of things to work on, lol :o

When dex is like this short of picking him up and launching him NOWT works.... voice, distractions nothing....... new trainer/behaviourist coming to the house tomorrow night
