Hi, I'm planning to run a showing and show jumping event for charity and I was just wondering other than arena hire and rosettes, what costs are involved because I'm sure there must be more than that (I've already had bibs donated). Thanks in advance for your advice and experience x

Insurance, First aid, jump hire, some judges require petrol money, others would just appreciate a good feed. Stewards like to be fed too as a thank you for their time.

Lots of helpers and stewards will be needed, they might not cost a lot, but need looking after with food and hot drinks. Think about safety, particularly in collecting rings and the ability to keep horses away from pedestrians (the last thing you want is an over excited horse and a push chair in close proximity to each other!) Toilets, there will be a local hire company if the venue does not provide them. Think about the parking arrangements, will you need a car parking steward?

All the above, plus printing and distributing schedules and entry forms. Rope & posts for rings/warm up areas. Catering (get in a burger van?) for competitors as well as aforementioned refreshments for judges and helpers.
Running a show is ...challenging... but with a good team working together can be very rewarding. Check what other events are on locally so as not to clash with a similar event or you will attract fewer competitors. Consider who would be attracted by the classes/judges you plan to have, e.g. low-key have-a-go locals, or HOYS wannabes! Good luck:)
