I'm 27 weeks pregnant and have kept riding till now, I didn't ride as much during the cold weather cause it was so slippy but have been able to ride Saturday and Sunday for a good while.

My horse is amazing and very safe (fallen off once in the 10 years I've had her) so that's not a problem.

I just seem to ache quite a bit after now :( feels like I've done a 25 mile endurance ride but I've only gone 5 or usually less...

One of my problems is I can't just walk, I get too bored plus my horse loves cantering! I'm also worried about being too heavy for her but she doesn't seem to mind?

It's too hard giving up what I love so much! :'( x

I'm glad i'm a man!! haha
At least you won't be out of riding forver
and when your baby is a bit bigger you can get a little pony for him/her and show them what you love so much :D

Just think it's only a short while without riding while you carry a very special bump with needs and considerations that has to come first. You can still enjoy your horse from the floor with in hand work or loose schooling, might be interesting for both of you to try something different and when bump arrives there will be times/ days that you will not be able to ride for a number of reasons and these new games may come in handy ! Good luck and take care of yourself.

I already have the pony :) a 9.1hh Shetland, had her 8 years she's a little gem with tiny kids :D

I've just stopped at 23 weeks and to be honest I only rode for this long because there was no other option for exercising the horses. I was far too tired, I wasn't particularly effective anyway and all I could think about was what would happen if I fell off!

Here's to hoping for a quick return to riding after the fastest and most pain-free births known to womanhood for both of us! :)

You will ache because the pregnancy hormones soften the ligaments, preparing for the body to give birth.

I managed up to 7 months before my hips just couldn't take it any more.

Probably time to temporarily hang up your hat :(.
On the bright side, the weather will be more inviting when you will be ready to get back on :).

Good luck :).

I have never worried about falling off although I bought some new hoof boots which have an aggressive tread and tried then out today, my horse seemed to know this a proceeded to canter along the slippiest path I usually walk along :-/

I second the quick return and pain free births!!! Xx
