I've been looking for a month and haven't found anything suitable. My last hope has sweet itch and I don't think I want to take that on. I haven't seen anything that fits the bill that I could really trust. Sooo... Gonna take a break for 6 months to a year and save up, and hopefully a 6k budget will get what a 4k one can't. Then, I am going to try and find a Fell pony that I can fit on, because I love them. Or a Connie at a push!

But what will I actually do with all my spare time in the meantime? A mate suggested that I research my family tree... In that instant, I knew I already missed owning a horse more than I could say! Feel a bit sick at the thought of actually giving up. Still have to tell my lovely YO and wave goodbye to my stable and my friends. :(

Sort of pointless I know, but wanted to share with someone other than OH, who has suggested that i use the time to learn to cook properly.

I have been dithering on and off about buying another for ages (banging on about it on here too). I see loads I like but then I'm only window shopping. So many people have said that the right horse will find me at the right time. I am riding a friend's horse a couple of times a week at the mo and I'm going to try a little jumping at the local riding school, this way I get my fix but my job and my family still receive some attention.

A month isn't that long to be looking. I lost my old boy three years ago and I've been dithering for about 2 years and 11 months!

Thanks folks, I do agree, it's not long. I have my stable for another month anyway as I have to give notice, but once it's gone the yard is full and there are 5 more on the waiting list. I'm clinging to the hope that something lovely will turn up in the time I have left, but can't keep paying for a stable with no horse really. I'm kicking myself as my uncle offered me his fell pony a year ago, for free. I loved him and we got on wonderfully, but I was worried about my legs being too long and wanted an Arab to fulfil a childhood dream. Oh foolish hubris, regret is thy watchword!

I sold mine and like you after 2 months was fed up. I'd seen rearers, too small, too big, very badly schooled, nappy, out of budget you name it! I said I would give up and just pootle along with the ones I work with. Sure enough that week Whisper arrived at my ex bosses yard and later that week became mine!

Pm me what you're after and what area.

not sure what you are looking for but there are a lot if horses about for sale an many for less than your budget. I sold a wonderful Hanovarian a couple of years ago for your budget He was a superb prospect for anyone with a temperament to die for Or maybe I just under price mine. Not greedy just want back a bit of what they have cost me to raise from foals. A month isnt long and to be honest you do have to kiss a few frogs before you find your prince

There was a stunning looking fell for 800 on facebook only just broken but with your budget you should get an exceptional fell! Ive seen plenty go from 100-500 at beeston! Dont give up just extend your search area! :)

I don't understand the problem. A month isn't long but with that budget you should be able to find a nice safe ride. Do you want an absolute paragon of safety in a super-model body? Because, no, you won't find one of those but if you're looking for a reasonable looking horse with a good, sensible temperament, that can be relied on to be safe under most circumstances, there are plenty around.
Make a list of the things you are not prepared to compromise on and concentrate on looking for those in the ads. Don't worry about any of the things that are not essential to you, the right horse is out there.

What about contacting Horseworld in Bristol. So many options - you could loan a horse for 6 months while you're waiting (and be doing a charity good at the same time) or they may have just the horse you'd like to keep. I was at an event on Thursday and a rescue horse of Jenny McGregors (Welsh Rescue) was doing brilliantly! It's always good to widen your options.

Wow, the thread went mad while I was having breakfast! Kelly I'd had that suggestion before and am looking into it; think it's a fab idea. Definitely thinking that the right one will find me and in fact I think he may have. Don't want to jinx it as he's not actually advertised but I've got a bit of hope. Wanted a 10 yr old fell who has done a little bit, really prefer geldings to mares (which is unfortunate as I've seen plenty of mares that fit the bill!). Don't really need a saint, cheeky is fine but I like that feeling you get when you get on and they feel safe. My old lad felt like a time bomb, you could feel it as soon as you were on. Don't want that again!

Thanks everyone for your kind words. It feels like a bit of a moan when i read it back. I'm not usually so whiny, honest. Hope to be back with an update on my possible purchase in a week or so. Pls wish me luck!

I understand how you feel, SK, but don't despair and don't give up your place on a lovely yard, the right horse is just around the corner. Good luck!
