Hi, last winter my mare suffered with mud fever. It cleared up and now she has had a reaction to buttercups this summer, causing mud fever like sores which the vet had to be called out to. The sores have now all cleared up. My worry now is that she has a weakness in this area as we head into this coming winter - I know I'm thinking ahead but you need to research these things. Has anyone used either Think Mud or Global herbs Mud-x? I've used Think fly this summer and been impressed with the results, and I've also used Global Vite before changing her onto a balmacer. Any feedback would be appreciated. Many
Thanks

I have had great sucess with Naf 'Mudguard' on a coloured cob that failed its vetting as the mud fever was so bad. However once on this he never had a reoccurence.

The other product we used which really helped was to smother his fetlocks and heels with udder cream - cheap and worked a treat.

As above - we had better results with NAF Mudguard. But you do just have to try and see what works. I've had a massively mud fever prone cob for the last 6 years - he even manages to get mud fever in the dry summer by sweating on dust. But I have his management down to an absolutely fine art now and it all works. We get the odd patch but nothing to worry about. But I have to say feed supplements are the most minor bits of his regime. You need to sort out the wash / don't wash question. Oil or barrier cream etc etc. That is more important, IMO, than what you feed.
