and now have a very black little tow and I can sort of move it. Am I right in thinking they wont do anything so no point going anfywhere especially in this weather. I can walk btw.

thanks in advance

I think that they just wiggle it about a bit and strap it to the next toe, not sure.

I KNOW I broke one of mine again today because it was at an even weirder angle than it usually is

I dropped a litre of milk on it! Yeah right you say, milk isn't going to break a toe, it jolly well does if it is straight out of the freezer. (You all freeze extra milk for emergencies don't you?)

I have just stuck some elastoplast on and unless it goes a strange colour and/or falls off I'll leave it. If I went to the ER it would probably cost me $200 to have them say "Yep, broken" - forget that!

If you can walk, it's prob not broken, but OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! just the same. A bad bruise can hurt like hell. Take some Ibuprofen to get the swelling down and reduce the pain and cuddle up on the settee under a fleeey blanket.

I told my OH about my toe, when he stopped laughing he told me to go and stand barefoot in the snow for a bit. Hmm...

Do NOT take ibuprofen or any other anti-inflammatories! Healing bones is an inflammatory process so you will slow your recovery if you take ibuprofen. I know this because I broke my big toe before Xmas and ended up in A&E - one of the main bits of advice from the doctor there and from the fracture clinic I went to two weeks later was to not take ibuprofen. Oh and to expect it to hurt for 2-3 months after that. Good times!

Assuming nothing is displaced then they do not do anything at A&E, except give you painkillers so strong someone asked me at work on a teleconference if I was drunk.

I only went to A&E because I had no sensation in the toe at all except for pins and needles in the tip - they x-rayed me because your big toe is v important to balance and walking and they were concerned I'd displaced something which was causing issues with nerves. As it turned out I hadn't, my foot had just swollen so much that it was causing the problem!
