Im a bit stuck...yet again...
I have an old pony as some of you know who is not doing so well on the dusty hay at the moment...I soak the hay and I also use haylage to help her out, but she is still wheezy and not gaining much weight.... Th haylage is quite rich for her and she does get problems at the back end with loseness which depresses her and I am constantly having to wash her tail best I can without her getting too cold....There is no grass in my small field she is in at the mo and she is looking pretty sorry for herself....
I have been offered to rent a field around the corner which is lovely....5 acres, all topped and fertizlied over the winter...looks great, however I have been advised that putting a horse onto frosty, cold grass so soon can make her loose her condition...Ive told the field owner I would like to get into the field in March - also slightly worried about turfing her out on the grass in warmer April month due to the spring grass and lami issues, so im not too worried if she loses a little condition at the moment if it means she is more resilent with lami and I can always fence off the land....!
She has issues being stabled too so im really stuck with what to do...!! Do I buy more hay and keep her going quite thin and miserable in her small field, or turn her out into a big, nice looking field with good but cold grass and cheer her up...?
I have a 5 yr old too who is desperate to get out of the small field as well...
Suggestions welcome!!!
