Not sure if getting a sharer is the way to go. Due to lack of time I get to ride very intermittently. Therefore my boy is never really fit. He is a 14.2hh pony and a good doer so is gaining weight although I am doing my best to keep his weight down.

I keep him at home with no arena so it would mean having someone who enjoys hacking. He is very good on the roads.

The thing bothering me is how would I know what they are doing with him when on a hack? ie trotting fast on road, cantering on every available blade of grass etc.

You will never be able to know what they are doing, so you have to trust them! You may gets loads of people ringing, in which case you can vet them individually, and you will find someone who you will trust. Its very hard to do it, and you always think/know that they are going to do something wrong, but thats the way it goes!

I think you would need to thoroughly vet them explain that he cannot be trotted on the roads or cantered a lot and put it into a contract and make sure they are happy with that before committing.

I never trot my horse on the road either, unless it is life or death and only then for a bare minimum.

There are some nice genuine people about, its just a question of finding them.

Good luck
