I was thinking about taking the horsey to a couple of local shows next year but although i can find a few it seems you can't go along just for the fun and experience any more.
I don't want to start a showing career with him just do something he hasn't for quite a while and give us some new experiences together. The last time i took part was when i was a kid admittedly but surely there are still some relaxed ones out there?
Am i the only one who has found that every show no matter how small or local is always a qualifier for something, or deemed too serious for the likes of me to come along and just enjoy the day?

Not sure about your area sorry, but we have a small local fun club up here and I've taken both ponies to it for experience. There are still some out there.
Have you tried contacting local riding clubs as, even if they don't do anything like this, they might be able to point in the direction of somewhere that does?

I don't know of any arenas near you, but around us there are a few little livery yards which also hold fun shows. I was grooming at one and it was so casual I did a class on a 12.2 pony in joggers and a t-shirt :p

I'm sure if you did some research there are some very nice chilled out shows near you, it might be worth going to that showground just to see what the atmosphere is like. Unfortunalty there are less summer shows due to costs, I think the only summer shows which can afford to run are PC or RC which are quite competitive.

True, i didn't think about things not being on due to costs now.
I will contact local yards and riding clubs definitely and see what they can come up with.
Maybe my memories are clouded with thelwell looking ponies and gymkhanas!

At our local RC shows most of the classes are qualifiers, and you do get the pot hunters going, and people running after qualifiers, but you do get lots of "normal" people going with "normal" horses, so don't worry. Perhaps go to a couple to watch at the start of the season, to get an idea of which are "kinder" to novices. Most local RCs run novice shows at the start of the season. Your local instructor/tack shop would be able to tell you which are nice ones to do... Hope you have fun - thats why you're doing it, not just to win, so it doesn't matter really...x

I took my foal to a few shows last summer, same reasons as you, just wanted to get her out and have fun. Without a doubt the only place I found useful was my local safeness who has hundreds of brochures. Many were open to all, with lots of novelty and very few serious ones.

Don't bother with google, find a local tack shop or farm supplier. Xxxxx

theres loads around me. Are you near the cambs side of hertfordshire?? if you are theres load you can go to. If not try local riding clubs and tack shops or your instructor. If not just turn up all the ones we have been to have been very friendly
