A few years ago I worked with some pointers. I currently have a TB that I'd like to point for a bit of fun as I'd say she's very capable of getting around safely (ex BSJA). I have a friend who worked 6 years in racing who would be up for helping me also. I can't remember how many times they should hunt to qualify? Also what would be my best point of contact? I am in the North wales bordering Cheshire area. I am better fixed for hunting during the week but could do weekends if need be.

Hunt 4 times to qualify, ex BSJA doesn't necessarily(spl?) mean he'd be a good pointer though, its quite different jumping from collected canter to travelling at 25/30mph! You'll have to do some serious work to get him fit enough but if you can manage that good luck! You'll need to contact the secretary of the hunt you wish to qualify with, you usually pay the price of a single hunt sub per horse you wish to qualify, she will give you the relevant forms, you'll then have to send off little over 50quid to Weatherbys. Is he regd Weatherbys or are you just qualifying for the members race?

Some of these links would be useful to you:

There was alot of good info on the Jockey club website but they seem to have updated it and its not there at the mo.

Thanks for the links. The horse is Wetherbys reg & has raced on the flat. One of the reasons I don't enjoy showjumping her is that unlike others, she won't jump from a collected canter..! She jumps every round like a jump-off and it gets a bit hair-raising inside an arena! I'll check the links out - thanks.

Cool! You can take your pick then! I don't know about your hunt but our members race isn't that competitive - we only had two in it in Feb - so might be the best place to start!

Good Luck!

I think Severnmiles has a good point about the diff between SJ and P2P, although speed is a major factor, the horse also needs to be able to stand off quite a bit - we had the opp problem when I wanted to event an ex p2p horse!
