I've just bought one of these grazing muzzles for my pony and am struggling to get what I think is a good fit. Should the grazing hole be directly below the lips, or as the muzzles can move quite a lot doesn't it matter? The instructions on the two company videos and those in the packing vary to some degree, which is confusing. I'd also be interested in how long people's ponies took to adapt to grazing with a muzzle? I only tried mine in it for about twenty minutes but he was getting very frustrated that he couldn't eat so I took it off. He was rubbing the mask over the grass - I don't know if that was general frustration or because I later realised that the hole wasn't directly below his mouth. Help really appreciated as I need him to wear this so he can be on grass for longer.

I will take a picture of my pony tomorrow with his muzzle on. It does move around quite a lot, he just wiggles it where he wants it. They do that grass rubbing thing to start with, before they have got the hang of it. I recently sold a pony, he never liked his muzzle and was depressed by it. But the young one we kept is very accepting of it. I have two muzzles, one I had to enlarge the hole as it was just too small. The other came with a slightly larger hole anyway, no idea why. They do struggle with too small a hole. I will measure mine tomorrow as well.

Thank you. That would be really helpful and it's good to know about the grass rubbing. I ordered the muzzle with a 3.5cm hole as I thought the one with a 2.5cm would be too frustrating for him.

Morning, hope these pics come out. I measured my pony’s muzzle hole and it’s 4.4 cm after we enlarged it. He has been out most of summer and we have had lots of grass as been so wet. When he comes in or is shut in a pen, he has ad lib hay.

Just struggling with the photos, will post separately, hopefully. Being rejected as too large at the moment

Just spent about 15 min trying to shrink the photos, not working at all. I’m not very techy I'm afraid. I can email them if you want to pm me your email address. Otherwise I can say the hole does hang pretty much directly below his lips, and I have quite a big gap between the muzzle and his mouth. About 2 cm.

I fit it like a saggy boob, so it looks low with head up but sit right when grazing with head down ...
Thanks. I think mine is a bit higher - can't load photos. I can't make it any lower because to do that I'd have to make the headcollar nose band sit too low.

Thanks. I can't load photos either! I've sent the photos to Thin Line so hopefully they'll be able to advise me. He has worked out how to eat through it so I'm hoping it's OK.

That’s a good idea. Also good he is eating through it, great! Some headcollars do allow it to fit better than others, some rub their faces and some don’t. Some they can pull off, some they can’t. It’s a bit of a minefield and working out what suits your pony. Good luck !
