ThinLine Saddle Pads, or alternatives?

I borrowed a friends ThinLine saddle pad yesterday as she was raving about it (shock absorbing to the extreme and her horse was working much more freely over his back because of it). I tried it on Bean and I have to say she went very sweetly, and best of all I didn't have back ache after riding!

So I guess I'm in the market for a shock absorbing pad, but thought I'd have a look about before buying the ThinLine as it's eyewateringly expensive. The problem with the ThinLine pads is that they appear to be able to purchase from the US only and aren't cheap, along with import tax its looking like quite a pricey purchase.

Has anyone had much success with other UK based brands that they would recommend? I liked that the pad was very thin, and moulded around the saddle, I'm keen not to alter the fit of the saddle with a thick chunky pad.

I have a half pad, it is beautiful. I actually don't think anything compares, it's a completely different material to others on the market.

I'm not currently using it because I'm riding in a solution saddle and they seem to work better with their own pad and shims.

I might be convinced into selling it...

So, looking at this thread and the other, I decided to treat the mare and went and ordered a Thinline pad. I got the ginormous "ultra" one, as that is what seemed to be the best for maximum coverage without bulk.

It came quite quickly to say it was from abroad, and I realised that I probably had not needed the XL one, so I trimmed it a bit so it would not be an actual rug (!) and gave her a ride.

Her verdict?

She says I can shove the fancy pad where the sun don't shine (I presume she means the tack room) as she prefers the saddle with a thin numnah.

Pah, horses!

Let me know if you’re planning to get rid of it!
