I know I'm making myself look a bit of a plonker tonight but I have been thinking of these questions for weeks and just thought I'd post them all tonight as I am sad and am not going out anywere!

So Nicky is really really itchy all over, most of the time. He doesn't really scratch on things but if you itch him he goes mad and pulls all sorts of appreciative faces. I
I have tried all the usual and given him baths in antibac shampoo but it doesn't seem to help.
I also noticed that he doesn't really know how to itch himself (maybe he wasn't loved enough as a child!) lol but he always needs you to scratch him, he doesn't ever rub his face on his leg etc. etc.

Does anyone have any experiences of this or any ideas as to how to help him?

End of stupid questions... many thanks for being tolerant!

If he was itchy.... then I think he would scratch.... it would be automatic

I think he just loves your scratchy times the best

Merlin loves it when I brush the nearside of his neck.... he pulls faces and grooms me back, then puts his face next to mine and blows in my face......

Groom the other side and he ignores me

Well the odd itch is normal, and Horses do like a good scratch in places they can't reach. Have a good look at make sure there isn't signs of lice or mites.

Most Horses love it when we scratch them though....itchy or not!

I have looked for creepy crawlys... and none to be seen! It wouldn't have surprised me knowing where he came from!

I have just never seen a horse being driven so mad by an itch and doing nothing about it, but then when you scratch him he is fine afterwards!
Tonight, I thought he had colic as he was so unsettled and kept looking round at his stomach. Turns out he was just itchy and couldn't be bothered scratching it himself?!
I knew he was an odd ball but this is definately strange!

Might have a word in the other horses ears and ask them to show him how to do it himself!

could be his coat coming through and its making him all itchy

Merlin is very odd at the moment, he LOVES being brushed on his neck - he extends it and leans into it like a dog

wouldnt worry, as long as he dosent try and rub you when he has his bridle on - that hurts!!

try putting some cod liver oil in his diet if he is shredding his coat this will help or even try him on itch free from dodson and horrel they are both cheap see if they may help!
