Not a lot for Chilli this weekend as he had a busy week of an overnight with my regular trainer, then a three day clinic with Diane Thurman-Baker. I think we might have made progress on the canter - he's now happily doing right canter transitions...but not on the aid and often on the left rein... However we did start piaffe and Spanish walk under saddle so that was quite fun!

I got back from work trip to Cairo and my dog was at the vet as she's ruptured her cruciate ligament 😭
Thankfully booked for surgery next Tuesday so not much of a wait, however £4500 is a big gulp!
She is currently very sad and quiet, on strict bed rest, which means I am too so she has company.

Also, we're meant to be going on holiday on Sunday, we only go once a year for a week in the UK, so had been looking forward to it for months but what's the saying about plans and animals??

Oh no! What breed is she? My dog did the same 5 years ago but as he's only 20kg we could go with the cheaper op (about £900 at the time). He was six weeks into rehab when my other dog tried to hump him and did the second leg...apparently it's quite common for both to go :( He was also very fed up but he made a full recovery and still leaps around age 13! Even the vet who did the surgery is amazed at how much mobility he still has.

Oh no! Hope she recovers well.

Agree with your last line, discovered today that Buzz has pretty bad hock arthritis (feeling very guilty, I had no idea until he was lame this last week) and last year I had booked into one of Amber's Echo's camps for next weekend so I had to withdraw. It was the only thing i'd had planned this year! But I'm glad I did as it definitely wouldn't have been fair to make him do all that travel and work. Poor pony! So our weekend will be hacking to try and get some of the weight off him before he has some steroid injections.

She's a whippet, about 16kg.
I've heard the 2nd one may go too... Hopefully she gives me enough time to save up again!
She is only 4 so want to give her the best chance as she loves bombing about.

In better news, Dima is doing well with his barefoot transition - still wearing boots in front but ok now on the stoney track and cantering around on the grass

We completed our ride, Coolie felt AMAZING the whole way, and pulled up really well. I am so proud of him. I honestly didn;t think that at 21 we would still be doing new things but here we are, just having the best time together. He is just the best little horse and i love him!

Enjoyed your write up. A friend up in Derbyshire does loads of endurance and I am regularly jealous about the rides she does!

My weekend kicked off on Friday with arena hire down the road (& loading practice in their lorry park). Right canter is still an issue and despite the vet and physio not finding anything I'm worried there is a niggle. Handy having the mirrors because I can see in trot on the left rein we are slightly quarters in, so we did some work on straightening that. Not sure whether his quarters are slightly out on the right rein because the arena is fenced and mirrors only at one end, but he was starting to feel more supple and much more consistent into the contact.

Right canter though ..... So he absolutely understands I want the canter transition even if I'm throwing him out of his best cob trot into canter at times. But he is insistent on left canter unless I adopt some of the tricks people gave me in my original 'I'm having problems' post with weight in right stirrup and head bent slightly left - then we get that right canter lead. We also get some huge bucks and I can't tell at the moment if that is a balance issue or discomfort. He has no problem in the field, out hacking or even after a jump. Schooling yesterday over a raised pole on the bend had him changing to the correct lead himself and then cantering round just fine. We are loads better than when I first posted and he doesn't disunite any more so both the vet and physio think strength issue but I've got a paddock pet who I was told 'schooling issue' who turned out to have nasty suspensory damage so I remain paranoid.

The poor microcob is wondering what she did to deserve hacking on Saturday in the torrential rain. It wasn't that bad when we started out but I was soaked to my knickers by the time we got back, with water running down my neck and down my boots. Beautiful today obviously when I'm at work

I treated myself to lessons both days. The instructor only comes over sporadically and this was his last visit before he’s off to Paris so I thought I’d double up. Day 1 was working on changes and piaffe/passage, day 2 was aimed at improving straightness in order for those things to be easier and more correct.

I really enjoyed both days. He gets a very good tune out of us and always has lots of compliments for my boy, which I always appreciate 😂 of course I know he’s perfect, but it’s nice to have others agree 😄

My baby horses turned 1 a couple of weeks ago. I am not doing any youngstock shows or anything (or at least haven’t planned to) so I’m not working too hard with them. This week we have just been practicing being coated in fly spray 😄 that’s an important life skill.

Lunged Mr B both days over raised poles - he is starting to enjoy his time/exercise with me again after some stressful sessions where he was objecting to being asked to work at a manageable speed. It's nice when the nervous nelly relaxes into situations. And OMG seeing him extend when we use the full length of the 'school' it looks like his shoulders will dislocate 😱🤣

Reggie did some ground work, stepping over poles (they were out from Ben's session so seem obvious to incorporate them. We attempted to teach a bit of lunging. Settled for a few forward steps on a slightly longer rope as Reg is a bit special. Backing up and some moving out of my personal space. He's starting to have a bit more control of the crazy legs now (thank god!) so a little bit of trotting up with out standing on me or tripping me up was nice.

I rode Robin both days. We didn't go out as the roads were really busy and although he is good in traffic it felt unnecessary to go out if we didn't need to. He was compliant to my aids, changing direction and speed nicely. some nice straight line trots up and down the 'school' and walking over poles. He's got a lovely active walk and attitude towards everything. Love this pony so much! But I really wish he'd grown a little bit bigger - constantly watching my weight is stressful! I'm currently 17% of his (weightaped) total weight which I'm fully aware is top end with tack so we keep sessions short and sweet and most importantly fun for him.

I finally got back on!!! After 7 months and thinking I’d never ride her again. In the school for my safety but our ridden rehab is now going to be 99% hacking. Once I got over my nerves and feeling sick, I actually enjoyed it. She was so good too - a few nappy moments that started about 5 mins in but got better as time went on, and her behaviour between the napping was perfect.

I forgot to post last weekend. I had a lesson which was supposed to be videoing for e riders but we had some tech problems so will go for an entry next month instead.

Definitely felt the benefit of my physio exercises, and mostly confidence is still building. I got in my own head about it though and kind of lost the fun for a minute. Then when I watched the bit of video we did get I got all critical about it not looking forward enough.

It's going to be warm next week and back up camera person isn't going to be around so I have booked a hack instead! My last hack was in a snow and hail storm which went okay but hasn't left overly positive associations in my mind for the confidence building. I hope a really sunny day will cancel that out and give me a boost.
