Surely anyone can tell thats not how to harness up a horse, and why would you choose that picture??? And 'all good' as description?

Small part of me wants to buy it, bring it on and sell, but not at that price! I got my international driving pony for less that that

Yeah i saw that last week and though WTF. It's seeing stuff like that which makes me side with the ostler in carriage driving... it's awful how many people who think they can drive just because they can ride and then proceed to teach other not just badly but dangerously and try to do things on the cheap. I'm so glad I started with an LHHI and now have lessons with reputable instructors or my coach woman who was taught by an international driver and an LHHI

it is a harness racing set without the over check. for the exercise cart shafts to be attached that high it must be a quick hitch one not a standard cart. it is to big really for the pony.

yeah that is harness racing but they dont exercise them at home in sulkys or harness like that, they are used only for racing or fast work. at home they will use a exercise cart and harness like the one in op pic (but with the right size cart). they dont use a breaching strap on harness racing horses and the sulky/ exercise carts attach with a quick hitch system. a lot of horses are driven in racing type harness because its quick, easy and lite.

Ok then, my mistake,
but why no traces? Surely the horse has weight on its back now, and instead of pushing the cart along, its pulling it with the pad

they use a breastplate (abit like a hunting one without the martingale attachments tho) which attaches to the saddle to keep it in place and also when racing they use an over check which runs from a 2nd smaller bit in their mouth up between the ears and attaches to the front of their saddle it also keeps their head up, from the saddle to the croupe there are strapes to attach the hobbles (again only used for racing or fast work). the sulky/exercise cart only attaches to the saddle through the quick hitch system and can be hitched/unhitched in a matter of seconds but is very secure. i may be wrong but they wont have much weight on their backs as the way the shafts are designed when the driver sits on the sulky the shafts lift slightly(abit like sitting on one end of a see saw). as kids we used to pull the sulkys around the yard with each other on, it was great fun. does this make any sence?

when its done right its not wrong but in the o/p pic it is because the cart is the wrong size for that pony.
the harness used in the picture and that of the harness racing is not wrong its just totally different to that of a normal driving horse!!!
