Breast girth? Breast plate? Or something else?

Piece of elastic that goes round the base of the horses' neck and attaches to the D rings on the saddle?

No other fittings to it, like I don't want the one with the piece of leather coming over the top of the horses' neck/mane.

I think racehorses usually wear these things to stop their saddle slipping back.

I want one, and can't find what I want online

Thanks!

Breast Girth, at least it used to be called that when I was racing :)

In general, breast girths have no girth strap, breast plates do (in my world anyway):)

We got all our racing kit here, although, as far as I remember they did have straps over the wither and fastened through the girth. http://www.gibson-saddlers.com/SearchResults.asp

Surely this isn't worth an argument chaps..
I call it a girth and it said girth on the label when I bought mine.

A breastplate has a strap that goes between the front legs that attaches to the girth and also a strap on each side of the withers going to the "D"s on the saddle.
A breastgirth goes across the chest and attaches to the girth (if there is a strap over the neck) or the "D" rings of the saddle if there is no neckstrap. This type is normally called a continental or collar breastgirth.

Just to confuse matters, I have always known them as breastCHECKs, to differentiate them from breastplates (which have the strap between the front legs and a loop for a martingale attachment) and breastgirths (which have a loop of leather over the withers).

Sorry ;)
