Mickey can't poo and walk/trot/jump etc etc at the same time. is tehre anyway which can make him try and do it together? or is it that some horses/ponies just can't moulty task in that way?

All horses can do it - it's the silly person who backs the horse initially who determines whether the horse will get into this habit or not.

I never ever let any of my young horses stop for a poo and subsequently they all now poo regardless of what else they are doing. This is one thing that really miffs me about some people who "train".

I have had a few older horses who have been allowed to do this forever it seems - not any more. I kick them on and they learn to do it whilst on the move.

I dont know but if you find the answer let me know. G stops dead when he has to go, even if we are in a stuble field having a canter with his friends.

Quite!!

I do think that many horses take their owners for a ride....in more ways than one

My horse is called Mickey too: But he has NEVER done a dropping when schooled (I've owned him for 7 yrs!). He has never done a wee under saddle either. Wonder why that is???

You should be able to feel him just before he wants to go, so once you feel this give him the cue to keep going. I assure you, he will eventually start to do it on the move if you do not give in to him

No none of my geldings will wee under saddle either - they always wait till they get back to their fields.

The horse I ride at the moment is just like that, she stops dead whatever she is doing! I also feel a bit mean booting her when she wants to go but I guess it's just a bad habit.

Going off subject slightly - Tallagh the grey mare I used to own was a complete dirty cow, she would give no warning whatsoever of about to have a wee, she would just come to a sudden stop and piddle over any unfortunate soul that happened not to be paying close attention and were to close to her bottom. At least twice she managed to pee on another riders leg

the other day when i went out for a hack he had TWO LONG WEES lol!

Mine won't poo or wee while I am riding her. Even if she is desperate she waits until all her tack is off before swifty relieving herself. Not sure if she has perfomance anxiety or what!

LOL mine will poo but wont wee until he gets back into his stable!

The black one doesnt give a toss, he will poo on your head if you take too long picking his feet out.

Cat always wanted to stop for a poo & my jumping coach used to get totally hysterical...what if he was 1/2 way thru a round etc. But tbh that never happened cos he'd always get so excited dr & sj waiting for the bell that he'd go before we started.

I can totally see the logic behind not letting him stop, but I always felt mean making him carry on cos I wouldn't like to poo while I was walking/trotting... (Plus he was less likely to get poo on his back boots if I let him stop...)

My RS as a child used to say we shouldn't let our ponies stop to poop, both mine will stop no matter what they are doing & I wouldn't like to be made to poo whilst walking so I don't make my horses keep moving either. Fudge always seems to stop for a wee when we meet up with groups of hikers etc I think he just likes humiliating me

mine always stopped for a poo .but one day i made him walk on when i got back he had poo all down his back legs so now i let him stop

Sorry, but I don't see the problem with letting them stop to go to the loo...all this rushing around and they must do it this way or that! My lord! I just let him go to the toilet because I would much rather he did not 'hold things in' and make himself uncomfortable to be honest. My horse only ever stops to do a poo in his field too...he never does them on the move at all...so why should I make him when I ride him?! But that is just me and my opinion!

I was told that they shouldn't stop to poo so I can frequently be heard to say 'walk and poo, walk and poo' as I'm pushing Chum on down the lanes. He doesn't stop if we are in company.

My mare never poo's or wee's while we are out. I wish she would though, I hate the thought of her busting for a poo but hanging on to it and giving herself a belly ache!

I have never seen any of the horses at my stables walk and poo whilst in the field, they all stop, but having said that I am not an expert on if it's unhealthy or uncomfortable for horses to hold onto poo or poo whilst moving and accept that others feel a horse stopping to poo is a sign of the horse taking the mick and choose to train their mounts not to stop.

Pidge pooed whilst jumping the other day and left a clump of it on the pole

However he has to be desperate to wee under saddle, but will go if he can't hold it any longer. He normally waits till we've finished riding and then its like niagra falls

otto always keeps moving when hes having a poo, he does it jumping and often leaves deposits on the fences to. he also lifts his tail and folds it over to one side usually whacking ash in the process before he goes! he wont wee under saddle though unless he is desperate...when we are out ,no matter how long he is stood at the lorry he waits until he is back on the lorry and then has a wee! its almost like he doesnt like doing it in public!

Bean always poos before she thinks shes going to canter- she thinks "if i off load just that little bit more weight i can go that little bit faster"

LOL I know a horse that does that as well!

I remember watching a pony poo as she was jumping a fence [while being ridden!] never seen that before or since...
