This is getting ridiculous now

Took this afternoon off to see another horse. Seller's just texted to cancel as their arena's flooded. I've really done something bad in a previous life! To be fair to them they've sent me a photo and it's pretty horrendous so at least I can just cancel my afternoon off and stay in a nice office. Not quite as annoying as the sold before I got there, the changed their minds on selling and of course the infamous 'lost shoes' but in the mean time, Archie's doing really well since having is coffin joint medicated. I'm really starting to think someone's trying to tell me something about this search.

I saw a super one for you the other day, 100% what you wanted but on the other side of the country to you (Sussex) and over budget (£10k), but it made me think of you and wonder how your search was going.
My mum is having a similarly hard time - horses seem really expensive now too, compared to even just a few years ago. Thankfully she's not had the same number of sellers let her down, but just not finding the right one. (We'll gloss over the reputable seller who had a fab video of a horse but forgot to say it was 2 years old and the horse was currently unfit and not in much work :o not very impressed she drove 4 hours for that one - more careful questioning needed and a lesson learnt the hard way!)
Will your work let you retract your annual leave today so you can save it for another time?
Out of interest, the one where you text the owner instead of your friend where the horse was subsequently re-advertised - did you call again?

I got my friend to phone about him and she was being quite cagey so we decided to leave it. I wasn't 100% convinced he was sound from the videos of him anyway.

I've seen one at a dealer I've already been to and am seriously tempted to just buy him unseen. He's perfect from the description and I know that the two I saw with her last time were exactly as described so I trust that he would be too. It's quite a long way to go and finding the time is so hard now with only really having daylight at weekends and being tied up for the next 4 Sundays in a row.

Is there any HHOs local to the dealer that could pass an eye over him for you?

Sounds sensible for that one then!

Is it worth posting his location - maybe someone on the forum would go view him and just check he is sound, right height etc? Or could you not go today if you have the afternoon off already? (Presuming it's a dealer so there's likely to be someone around to show you him)

He's 3 hours away so I wouldn't get there in time for daylight now and as he's so far I'd want to do it all in one visit so would want to get him out on the road. He's at Smart Performance Horses in Ashby-de-la Zouch if anyone fancies it, I'd be very grateful.

Work are pretty flexible so I'm working on today and going to try again with today's horse tomorrow. The forecast is better, it's just a case of whether it stops raining soon enough for it to drain.

Interestingly my mum was very uninspired by her conversation with that dealer and what we saw in some of the videos so we didn't go and view there, however if you've been before and had a good experience that's more important!
Edit to say - she didn't have a bad experience per se and the research she did on the dealer did reveal good reviews.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow instead.

Eta - I know he's out of budget/location, but just interested if he is otherwise the right sort? Got a quiet afternoon so don't mind doing some more searching (had enough of looking for 15hh unicorns today!) If I'm on the right track

A livery on my yard was bought from there, she was exactly as described and is a good match for the owner. Probably worse dealers out there!

Which one Annagain?
None of King, Tallow or Paddy would inspire me to drop everything and travel 3h and I certainly wouldn’t be buying one of those unseen. I might stop and see them in the flesh if I were in the area, but just be careful you aren’t becoming ‘desperate’ and make a mistake

It was King. I know what you mean, he's not much of a looker but temperament and experience wise he sounds spot on and I'm putting that above pretty much every thing else now - well I always was but it's even more important now. I'm even looking at greys as you know!

I seem to recall you're based in Wales somewhere - have you tried HM Sports Horses - seem to have good reputation & nice horses.

Are they the ones in Shrewsbury? so many two initial dealers around I'm losing track! If so, yes, they have nothing suitable at the moment

Yes in Shrewsbury.
Sorry I feel your pain & you're nowhere near us as we're in Essex where there are a few nice ID types popping up of late!

Argh you've had such bad luck!
Boss has just gone out.. *queue 20 minutes horse searching* just found this one. Not sure if to expensive, how far from you (or maybe to big!)
ETA - About 2 hours from Cardiff if I remember thats where you are based?

https://classifieds.horseandhound.co.uk/horses-for-sale/hunter/stunning-irish-draught-gelding-526515 - But thought he looked a sweet chunky chap!
Thanks but 17.2 at 5 will end up too big, I'd think you could add another inch or two to that at least by the time he's 8. He wouldn't fit in the stable that's ready for him!

That's a shame as he is really straightforward and honest with a good eye for a horse. Plus he really looks after the horses. He uses my vet physio who is always down there as he gets all new horses checked and treated as needed, gets them all the dentist etc.

I realise that makes me sound really picky - especially when I'm moaning about not finding a horse but it's just a question of practicality. I work full time, still have an old horse to look after and keep ticking over (he gets quite depressed if he doesn't get out for a walk a couple of times a week) and I'm chair of my riding club so get tied up with that fairly frequently. I also try to give my mum a few hours off on one weekend day by looking after my 97 yr old grandma who lives with my parents and have an OH and a dog to spend time with too. Spending a whole day on the road just isn't doable if i want to stay sane and keep others in my life happy too.

Yes he'd be just what I'm after. Where are you Chaps? The seller of the one I really liked but missed out on after the concussion incident has a lovely 4 yr old 15hh connie and she was great to deal with. She's in Porstmouth.
