I have been helping my friend look for a horse. She is looking for something she can get her confidence back on after having a fall on an ex racer.
We went to see an ID X he was lovely, really laid back but loads of character. The person selling him has had him since march and bought for her daughter but decided to keep a different horse and sell this one on. (even though they are both up for sale now...confusing i know) The lady has lost her job so is going to start producing horses and selling on.
So i rode this horse so did my friend, took it out for a hack and spoke about bringing our instructor to have a look. She said there was no rush and we went to get this right for you come and hack him out etc etc. All very good. Then she said i have this other one for sale (the one they were going to keep) so she got on that and he was dead to the leg, older and just a bit boring. So we went away and my friend rang her up a couple of days later and the lady was completely different, basically didnt want to sell this horse and said she would like to speak to our instructor, the next day he rang and she said she was worried about my friends hands in the canter. My instructor explained about her confidence and not cantering for 2 years and told her her would have a lot to do with this horse. So my friend spoke to the lady again and she was again very different and very nice, anted instructor to come and she the horse to see if he thought he was the right one. Arranged this for yesterday and my friend rang up in the morning to arrange and she was again different, she was going to take them to a dressage comp, and when my friend explained that the insructor knew the way she was shocked he was coming. So off they went and when they arrived she was riding the horse my friend didnt want and she came over and said 'he's on the box, on the box, go and see him' My instructor wanted to watch this so called ideal horse. He agreed not worth £5500 and dead to the leg, they then went to get the other horse and as she was warming him up she said i think im going to increase the price, carried on with how she had changed his feed and how he was more on his toes etc, he was as laid back as anything. Basically pushing the other horse on them, they ended up walking off its like she never wanted to sell him, and was very jeckle and hyde! today his price has increased by £1500 just because he has done a dressage test!
I can understanding her wanting him to go to a right home or worried about my friends hands but i recorded this and she only cantered half the school and her hands didnt look that bad to me to say she hasnt cantered for 2 years. it was like it was an excuse. I would be very surprised if he sells at this price as he hasnt done alot, he is just a nice boy but has too straight legs and im sure lameness would be round the corner.
